About the role

Job Description AltaGas - Plant Operator (JEEP) AltaGas is seeking an enthusiastic, proactive, and motivated Plant Operator to join our team at the Joffre Ethane Extraction Plant (JEEP)! Reporting to the facility's Operations Lead, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible performance of our equipment and pipelines.

You Will:

  • Achieve the safe, efficient, and environmentally sound operations of all JEEP equipment and connecting pipelines.
  • Provide quick identification and response to emergency situations. Understand, abide by, and follow Emergency Response Procedures
  • Collaborate with the Senior Operators to continuously improve site specific training, process safety management and special projects.
  • Update operating procedures by scheduled review or immediately if conditions require.
  • Respond during unit upsets, adverse conditions or serious situations using team members, management or external expertise as required
  • Ensure that all work activities on site comply with all AltaGas’ guidelines, EOH&S, Codes of Practice and other policies, and address concerns immediately by notifying senior personnel.
  • Troubleshoot process equipment and concerns, communicate with, and assists other operators when required
  • Participate in pre-job and work permitting processes regarding non-routine or high-risk tasks to ensure all hazards are assessed, mitigated, and communicated between all parties.
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance following all process and safety procedures including lock out/ tag out, PPE, confined space entry and all environmental performance standards
  • Ensure excellent facility housekeeping and clean up any areas that present any safety or environmental hazards
  • Report any health, safety, security, environmental or EOH&S management system incident, concerns or near misses. Report and record all non-conformances (environmental and medical aid, etc.)
  • Assist the maintenance department with general maintenance, if required.
  • Enter Work Order requests for equipment repairs in Maximo and close work orders when tasks are completed.
  • Assist in facility HSE Inspections as required
  • Maintain sensitive and confidential information regarding company operations.
  • Other duties deemed necessary for the safe and effective operation of JEEP facility

You Bring:

  • 3+ years of process plant operations experience, preferably in a gas plant with liquids extraction or NGL fractionation facility.
  • Minimum ABSA 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate is required. Third Class Power Engineering Certificate is considered an asset.
  • DCS or control panel experience is considered an asset.
  • Ability to identify and respond quickly to operating deviations to maintain safe operating conditions in the plant and to minimize downtime in the plant.
  • Excellent understanding of environmental impacts, health, safety, and security risks in an operations environment.
  • H2S Alive, First Aid, CPR, Confined Space Entry certifications required.
  • Ability to read and interpret operating manuals and Plant P&ID’s.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge (Microsoft Office Suite). Experience in Maximo is considered an asset. Technical ability to learn new software/hardware systems and processes in the facility is required.

Information for Applicants:

  • Preference will be given to candidates who reside within 30 minutes of the facility, to be available for emergencies, callouts, etc.
  • The shift schedule for this facility is a 28-day rotation, 12-hours per day (42 hours per week) including both days and nights. This includes weekends, holidays, etc.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are comfortable working overtime if required.
  • This is a safety sensitive position and requires the successful candidate to complete company-sponsored drug and alcohol testing.

Where You'll be Working: The Joffre Ethane Extraction Plant (JEEP) is 100 percent owned and operated by AltaGas. Located in Joffre, Alberta, JEEP has the processing capacity of 175 MMSCF/D of natural gas and can produce up to 10,400 BBLS/D of ethane and natural gas liquids. The JEEP facility’s strategic location provides the opportunity for valuable liquids to be processed for commercial and industrial users as well as to end-use markets in Central Alberta.
