Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor Customer Services & Programs/Adult Fitness, Wellness & Inclusion Services, is responsible for conducting fitness classes using whatever facilities and equipment are necessary to fulfill this function.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides a safe, effective, and enjoyable program for class participants.
- Plans exercises, choreographs routines, and assembles music to create an effective fitness class.
- Attends staff training and fitness motivator sessions throughout the year.
- Ensures that each participant completes a Par-Q; documents any necessary information regarding a Par-Q that has a positive response, as request.
- Is competent in first aid and responsible for participants’ well-being.
- Liaises and maintains effective communication with the school custodial staff.
- Answers questions from program participants within the bounds of education, knowledge, experience and available information.
- Informs participants of any schedule changes, facility rules and regulations or related information.
- Brings any unusual developments in the class such as equipment or facility breakdown, or any questions for which they are unable to answer to the attention of the supervisor.
- Makes necessary arrangements to have another instructor teach the class and notifies the supervisor as soon as possible with instructors name or if no instructor is available.
- Communicates participants’ requests, suggestions, and complaints to the supervisor; ensures that program evaluations are handed out, completed, and returned to the supervisor when requested.
- Makes recommendations to the supervisor regarding improvements to overall program effectiveness.
- Reports to the supervisor on a regular basis as established and responds in a timely fashion to communication.
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent;
- Completion of a recognized fitness leadership program and/or certification.
Assets:
- Preference will be given to candidates with associated experience in group teaching.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
- Must obtain Standard First Aid CPR-C within three months of employment
- Must obtain WHMIS
- Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Part-time (not to exceed 24 hours per week)
- Irregular hours (may have to work flexible hours)
JOB SPECIFIC INFORMATION:
- Fitness Instructor 1 (no certification) $17.20/Hr
- Fitness Instructor 2 (may require specialized certifications; teaches general programs including: bootcamp, circuit training, step balls, bars and weights, etc) salary range $20.00/Hr - $25.00/Hr
- Fitness Instructor 3 (may require specialized certifications; teaches specialized courses such as: Zumba, Kettlebell, TRX, Yoga, Pilates, Spin, Aqua Fitness, Boxfit, Panamania Dance, etc) salary range $26.00/Hr - $30.00/Hr
