About the role

Position Summary The Tunnel Manager/Tunnel Boring Machine and Sequential Excavation Method is responsible for overseeing all on-site activities related to tunnel construction, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications and timelines.

Reports to: Project Director The Tunnel Manager/Tunnel Boring Machine and Sequential Excavation Method's key responsibilities are:

  • Supervise daily tunnel construction and TBM operations, including excavation, demolition, shoring, and utility installations.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs and records in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor project progress and implement adjustments to meet schedule and quality requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and procedures during tunnel construction, including monitoring ventilation, ground stability, and emergency preparedness to protect workers and equipment.
  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure adherence to the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction Act.
  • Conduct regular inspections of work, systems, and equipment to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams for timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Manage on-site resources, including labor, equipment, and materials, to optimize productivity.
  • Review and implement Construction Method Statements and Safety Plans.
  • Support onsite logistics and maintain effective communication with crews, providing clear instructions and guidance.
  • Travel to project sites as required.

Education And Qualifications

  • 15-20 years of experience in heavy civil construction specifically tunnels, TBMs, ground improvement and shafts.
  • Experience in Slurry TBM is highly preferred.
  • Previous exposure to shoring, deep shaft excavation, and utility work is a must
  • Strong understanding of local construction safety standards and regulations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple sites along a project corridor.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills with a proven ability to motivate teams.
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise on-site activities and manage personnel effectively.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety protocols and ability to enforce them consistently.
  • Ability to monitor progress and adapt plans to ensure timely project completion.
