The Opportunity McElhanney is looking for a Civil Engineer to join our growing Fort St. John team and help shape the future of the BC Peace Region. In this role, you’ll work on meaningful projects that directly impact local communities and the energy sector, while advancing your career in a supportive, collaborative environment.

As part of our Fort St. John Engineering Division, you’ll contribute to municipal and infrastructure projects across the region, providing practical and sustainable solutions. You’ll collaborate with a diverse network of professionals, including civil, transportation, water/wastewater, geotechnical, and structural engineers, as well as surveyors and environmental specialists. The successful candidate is either already based in the Peace Region or willing to relocate to the Fort St John area. What You’ll Do

  • Provide detailed production of engineering designs, drawings and specifications for various civil projects including new municipal utilities, road works, bridges and culvers, water and wastewater, and infrastructure upgrades
  • Manage projects from planning through completion, including client communication, budgeting, scheduling and overall project coordination.
  • Work from preliminary concepts and sketches into engineering designs, plans and project informational requirements, using Civil 3D, as well as other technical software as needed.
  • Coordinate and assist in the preparation of documents required for approvals, prepare construction cost estimates, tender documents, and contracts, prepare contract documents, as well as coordinate with other team members to ensure schedules, budgets and quality control standards are achieved.
  • Assist with construction management and contract administration, including field reviews and safety leadership visits.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Work with other team members to ensure schedules, budgets, and quality control standards are achieved and maintained.

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university with 6+ years’ of relevant civil design experience.
  • Registration in good standing as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or eligibility for registration) in British Columbia.
  • Experience managing engineering projects, including taking professional accountability for designs, scheduling, budgets, and client communication.
  • Effective people, client and project management skills.
  • Sound business acumen and a keen entrepreneurial sprit.

What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $92,000 - $137,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
