About the role

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Educational Technology Manager, the Educational Technology Coordinator plays an important role in maintaining and enhancing the quality of Carleton’s educational technology services. Working closely with faculty members, contract instructors, staff, and teaching assistants, the Coordinator monitors the effectiveness, reliability, and support experience of the large and evolving number of educational technologies in teaching and learning activities at Carleton. The position supports instructors and staff to help ensure an excellent student and instructor experience.

The incumbent evaluates and critically reviews new technologies, teaching practices, and research to provide recommendations to the Manager, to help ensure TLS provides the best possible tools and approaches, informed by educational research and best practices in instructional design and educational technology.

The Coordinator is responsible for triaging support requests using a predetermined approach, tracking service trends, facilitating governance meetings, and maintaining documentation that ensures transparent, high-quality operations. They facilitate multiple projects related to educational technology, instructor support, and long-term service improvement efforts.

This role requires deep collaboration with internal TLS teams, departmental contacts, instructors, vendors, and campus partners. This position is responsible for implementing, supporting, and administrating courses within Carleton’s Learning Management System (LMS) and other Digital Learning tools. Through systematic testing, feedback analysis, and technical writing, the Coordinator ensures tools and services meet accessibility, usability, and institutional standards.

Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Proven experience supporting educational technology, maintaining service quality, and contributing to tool testing or evaluation.
  • Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models.
  • Expertise with Learning Management Systems, video creation tools, and web conferencing tools.
  • Solid knowledge of course development software and at least one Learning Management System.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to service excellence and an ethic of care.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail to identify usability concerns, system inconsistencies, and support gaps.
  • Experience documenting service processes, writing end-user communications, and supporting governance efforts across units.

Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • A Master’s Degree in Educational Technology or a related field is required.
  • The incumbent must have a minimum of four years of related experience in educational technology, including direct experience with modern learning management systems, digital learning tools, and support service operations.
  • Experience with ticketing systems, quality assurance testing, and technical writing is preferred.
