The Opportunity

We’re looking for a highly motivated and eager Junior Database Administrator to join our Information Technology team. This position is based in our Vancouver, BC office, and with the option to work remotely after 3 months.

The Database Administrator (Junior) is an entry level position that performs various database functions to support the administration and development of database applications across our organization. Under the direction of the Database Application Developer/Administrator, this position provides technical services to support the administration, creation, modification, and management of various databases applications to support environmental field data collection programs, as well as activities associated with the operational day-to-day business units within the company.

This position requires excellent motivation, communication, strong time management, organizational, technical, and analytical abilities skills. Overtime may be occasionally required, particularly in emergency situations, such as when systems are down or when time-sensitive tasks need to be completed.

What You’ll Do

  • Work under the direction of the Database Application Developer/Administrator to perform various database related tasks.

  • Work with technical teams and project managers to understand database use case scenarios.

  • Manage, monitor, and maintain various company databases to meet business needs.

  • Support the creation, modification, and management of various databases to meet business needs.

  • Assist in the development and testing of database applications.

  • Assist in the design and build of user-friendly, intuitive front-end form-based tablet database entry screens.

  • Assist in the designs and build of web portals to allow staff and clients to interact with data.

  • Assist with the designs and build of custom reports and data exports.

  • Assist with creating end user database use instructions and documentation.

  • Other related duties as required or assigned in this team-oriented environment.

Note: Responsibilities are based on specific candidate experience level and may evolve based on business needs and your individual growth in the role.

What You Bring

  • A diploma, or certificate in computer studies with a focus on database administration, management, and design.

  • 1 to 2 years experience with relational databases.

  • Understanding of relational database structures, theories, principles, and practices

  • Ability to confidently communicate ideas to an audience of peers and managers.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

  • Proven experience working independently and remotely outside of the office with minimal supervision

  • Detail-oriented with solid organizational and time-management skills.

  • Experience with FileMaker Pro, FileMaker Go, FileMaker Web Direct, Mirror Sync and Xgode will be considered an asset.

Compensation

The pay range can be anywhere from $28 per hour - $37 per hour, based on candidate experience and qualifications.
