Position Summary...
As a Merchant in Produce, this role is responsible for designing, developing, and executing category strategies that drive customer satisfaction, trust, sales, share and profitability. The position ensures alignment with both qualitative and quantitative criteria, manages full P&L accountability, and leverages data-driven insights to optimize assortment, pricing, and promotional activities within the Produce business.
What you'll do...
- Category Management and Reporting: This position is responsible for end-to-end merchandise profit and loss management, including both short- and long-term planning, proactive/reactive P&L management, and achievement of financial targets. The role develops and executes category strategies through data analysis, item-level assortment optimization, vendor and SKU management, price laddering, and private label/brand development. The role oversees new item and promotional forecasts, identifies item adds/deletes, manages markdowns/markups/price adjustments, and develops entry/exit strategies. The role also plans line reviews, delivering store-ready modulars and seasonal sets on time. The role involves understanding customer behavior across channels, guiding suppliers and vendors in developing customer-focused processes and products, and supporting category finances by tracking performance against financial targets. Creating sales reports, supporting forecasting, and providing analyses are fundamental to the role.
- Vendor Management: Vendor management is a key responsibility, which may include negotiating and managing agreements, costs, allowances, quality, and delivery terms to drive supplier performance. The role also involves attending trade shows and buying trips to identify new vendors and enhance product categories.
- Marketing and other Promotional Activities: Accountable for all marketing aspects of the category, including tab space planning, item level planning, selection, forecasting, and execution for various media.
- Leadership: The role provides coaching and direction to team members and may mentor others as needed.
- Stakeholder Management: The role supports the implementation of business solutions by building relationships with key stakeholders, determining necessary processes and practices, and adapting to organizational changes. Ensuring the execution of customer communication and education programs, collaborating with other stakeholders such as modular and site merchandising teams.

Qualifications:
- College Diploma or Certificate
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role
- Retail experience, preferably in Produce (Vegetables, Fruits and/or Processed)
- Strong commodity knowledge and negotiation skills
