About the role

OVERVIEW

The Senior Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the reporting and analysis functions for programs. Reporting to the Manager, Reporting and Analysis - Eastern Programs, the Senior Analyst is responsible for conducting in-depth data analysis, developing and managing cost/ data models, building reports, and providing actionable insights to support decision-making processes across the organization.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in data analytics, financial/ cost modeling, and business intelligence, with a focus on delivering accurate and timely reporting to stakeholders. This role requires excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex data in a clear and concise manner.

This is a salary paid position, requiring residency in Canada.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial & Operational Modeling

  • Model Development and Maintenance: Develop, maintain, and update operational and financial/ cost models that support planning, analysis, performance measurement, and fee-setting for programs.

  • Cost and Budget Monitoring: Monitor ongoing program costs & revenue, including collection, processing, and administration, and assess variances between budgeted and actual expenditures. Provide analysis and reporting to ensure financial sustainability of the programs.

  • Scenario Modeling: Develop and analyze multiple scenarios for potential program changes, including volume adjustments, cost fluctuations, and regulatory impacts, to inform strategic decision-making.

  • Data-Driven Insights: Provide data-backed insights on trends, budgeting, forecasting, and segmentation, enabling senior management to make informed decisions.

Performance Reporting & Data Management

  • Reporting: Prepare and deliver regular financial and operational reports (including variance analyses) to senior management and stakeholders as required. Support the documentation and presentation of cost and fee budgets and related data to internal and external stakeholders.

  • KPI Tracking: Track and report on performance against established KPIs, identifying trends and variances, and providing actionable insights for improvement as required.

  • Data Consolidation and Validation: Coordinate, organize and manage multiple datasets from disparate sources. Collaborate with internal departments to ensure accurate and timely data collection for all EPR programs. Conduct data validation and ensure data integrity for all financial and performance metrics.

Process Improvement

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve financial/ cost models, automate manual data processing and reporting tasks or processes to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of reporting.

  • Support Institutionalization of knowledge by ensuring processes documentation and SOPs are completed and up to date.

Strategic Projects/ Initiatives and Research

  • Support Circular Economy Initiatives: Participate in projects focused on improving organizational efficiency and advancing the goals of the circular economy.

  • External Research: Conduct external industry research to identify trends and write reports that inform strategic decision-making.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or business-related field such as Finance, Economics, Data Science, Business Intelligence, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.

  • Certifications such as CPA, CFA, or equivalent in Business Intelligence or Analytics are preferred.

Experience

  • 3+ Years Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a BI Analyst or financial analyst role, with demonstrated experience in advanced financial modeling, statistical analysis, and business intelligence reporting.

  • Strong Excel Skills: Expertise in advanced Excel modeling, including database management and complex financial modeling.

  • Experience with BI Tools: Hands-on experience with ERP systems and BI tools (e.g., SAP, Power BI) for data analysis, reporting, and insights delivery.

  • Data Analytics Expertise: Strong background in analyzing large datasets, financial modeling, and providing actionable insights to drive business decisions.

  • Automation & Process Improvement: Ability to automate reporting processes and improve data workflows, resulting in time savings and greater operational efficiency.

  • Strong Communicator: Ability to translate complex data into simple, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

  • Detail-Oriented: High attention to detail and a strong focus on data accuracy and reliability.

  • Problem Solver: Ability to think critically, solve complex problems, and present clear, concise solutions to business challenges.

  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities and requirements.

  • Self-Starter: Motivated to learn and develop, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • All CM employees work 40 hours per week, remotely from a Canadian home office environment.

  • Periodic overtime will be required.

PAY TRANSPARENCY

Expected Compensation:

  • An annual base salary in the range of $75,000 to $95,000.

  • The salary range listed complies with the Ontario Employment Standards Act and reflects a potential base salary range for this role. The actual salary offered will be determined within the range, and will depend on factors, such as the candidate’s unique qualifications, relevant experience, work location and expected contributions.
