About the role

Job Title: Finance & Accounting Associate

Location: Montreal - In office 4 days a week

Type of contract: Permanent full time 40h a week

Starting date: As soon as possible

The Role

We’re looking for a Finance & Accounting Associate to help build and run the financial backbone of a growing startup.

This is a hands-on, generalist role for someone who wants real ownership early in their career. You’ll be responsible for keeping the fundamentals tight: clean books, reliable close, and trustworthy reporting, while helping evolve the systems and processes that support the company’s next phase of growth.

You’ll work closely with the Finance Director and collaborate across operations, sales, and external partners. This role suits someone who is comfortable in the details, pragmatic in execution, and motivated by improving how things work rather than operating within narrow silos.

About us

Alvéole is on a mission to reconnect people with nature in cities, one building at a time. As a certified B Corporation since 2018, we believe business can be a force for good. We partner with the world’s leading real estate companies to turn sustainability into an experience that tenants can see, touch, and feel. Through rooftop beehives, biodiversity programs, and ESG data, we help our clients meet their environmental goals while engaging communities and strengthening their brands. You can find our work in thousands of properties across North America, Europe, and the UK, driven by a belief that business and biodiversity can thrive together. What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll help ensure that financial operations scale smoothly as the business grows.

That includes:

  • Owning full-cycle accounting processes and contributing to a fast, accurate month-end close
  • End-to-end ownership of the procure-to-pay lifecycle, ensuring seamless execution across a multi-entity, international landscape
  • Preparing clear, reliable financial reporting for internal review and decision-making
  • Supporting tax compliance, audit readiness, and interactions with external advisors
  • Improving workflows, documentation, and controls as complexity increases
  • Supporting ad-hoc analyses and operational finance questions from leadership

This is not a narrowly scoped role. You’ll see a wide range of accounting and finance operations work, and you’ll have room to shape how things are done rather than just follow an existing playbook.

Who This Is For

This role is a strong fit if you:

  • Have 3–4+ years of experience in accounting, audit, or finance operations
  • Have a solid grounding in accounting principles (GAAP / IFRS) and care deeply about accuracy and structure
  • Have been well-trained (e.g., public accounting, audit, or similar) and want to apply that foundation in an operating company
  • Are comfortable taking ownership, following things through end-to-end, and working in a fast-moving environment
  • Think like a generalist and prefer building systems over maintaining narrow specializations

Strong spreadsheet skills are essential, as is comfort working across multiple systems (accounting software, billing tools, operational platforms).

Bonus (not required)

  • You’re curious about modern finance tools, automation, or AI-enabled workflows
  • You enjoy reducing manual work, improving data quality, or speeding up close through better systems
  • You’ve experimented with low-code tools, SQL, APIs, or AI assistants — even informally

What We Offer

  • Comprehensive Health & Wellness: Full health insurance coverage starting on your very first day.
  • Generous Time Off: A flexible Paid Time Off (PTO) policy with a minimum of 4 weeks annually to ensure you can rest and recharge.
