Term: Permanent, Full-Time

Hours: 35 hours per week

Salary: $51,000-$55,500 annually

Nature & Scope

The Finance team at YMCA BC is vital to the organization’s success, ensuring both financial stability and transparency. They manage financial statements, budgets, and reports, working collaboratively with other departments to align financial management with YMCA BC’s strategic goals. By supporting various programs and services across the region, the team plays a crucial role in upholding the YMCA’s commitment to fostering healthy and inclusive communities. Please note that the YMCA BC is a CPA Pre-approved Program Route (PPR) office.

Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the intermediate accountant plays a pivotal role in supporting various departments by fulfilling their financial needs. Responsibilities include preparing month-end adjusting entries and accruals, reconciling accounts, and analyzing financial statements for distinct branches and programs. The role involves conducting variance analysis, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, and partnering with Operations Managers on budgeting and financial planning. The accountant also streamlines procedures, resolves cross-departmental issues, leads audit preparations, and manages general accounting tasks to enhance the finance department’s efficiency. These duties are essential to uphold the financial integrity and transparency of the organization.

Major Responsibilities**-** in this position, you will**:**

  • Preparing adjusting entries at month end including sub-ledger entries and accruals
  • Performing various account reconciliation
  • Analyzing and preparing operational financial statements for branches and programs
  • Conducting month-end variance analysis and presentation to the CFO
  • Working with Operations Managers in the preparation of yearly budgets and assisting with the financial planning and analysis
  • Working with other departments to correct procedures and resolve portfolio issues
  • Leads the preparation of year-end audit working papers
  • General accounting responsibilities to contribute to the overall workflow of the finance department and the entire Y

Qualification**-you bring:**

  • Enrollment in CPA program or equivalent combination of skills and experiences
  • Completion of an accounting diploma or degree an asset
  • Two to four years experience in accounting environment (not for profit preferred)
  • Experience with Sage Intacct preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work within a team and independently
  • Ability to consistently meet all deadlines
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
