About the role

School District 72 operates throughout a large geographic area. Campbell River and Quadra Island schools and our school board office are located on the traditional territory of the Liǧʷiɫdaxʷ people. School District 72 also encompasses the traditional territory of the Klahoose (Cortes), K'ómoks (Sayward), and χʷɛmaɬkʷu (Bute Inlet) First Nations.

School District 72 (Campbell River) is located on the east coast of central Vancouver Island, extending north to Sayward and south to Oyster River. The district also includes the outer islands of Read, Cortes, and Quadra. The district serves over 5,600 students in 18 schools with a diverse range of programs that are progressive and responsive to the educational needs and interests of students.

**WorkingunderthedirectionoftheDirectorofInstruction,theDistrictFrenchLanguageProgramsCoordinatorresponsibilities(butnotlimited****to)**include:

  • Collaborating with school administrators and school literacy teams to lead, support, guide, and enhance the District Literacy Framework.
  • Provide instructional and curricular support to French immersion and French as second language teachers through co-planning, classroom observation, mentoring and/or co-teaching.
  • Support classroom teachers in implementing inclusive practices by assisting with strategies that meet the diverse needs of learners who are learning French as a second language.
  • Collaborating with other district Coordinators and school administrators to ensure an integrated response to the diverse needs of learners in our schools.
  • Collecting and interpreting, with a team, assessment data related to French as a Second Language literacy.
  • Lead the French Advisory Committee, a multidisciplinary team focused on strengthening French immersion and French language programs across the district.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Instruction on French funding (OLEP) applications, budgeting and annual reporting.
  • Planning and implementing district-based in-service opportunities which may be outside of the normal school day.
  • Working with a team to recommend and distribute district resources in relation to literacy.
  • Act as a liaison between elementary, middle and secondary school French Immersion staff.

Qualifications

  • A valid BC Certificate of Qualification through the Ministry of Education.
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and oral and proficiency in the French language.
  • Minimum 5 years of successful teaching in a French Immersion classroom.
  • A passion and relentless pursuit for improving the life chances for all students through strong literacy development and supports.
  • Experience in teaching to diversity by using inclusive practices in a second language context.
  • A valid driver's license with access to a vehicle.
  • Extensive professional development in second language literacy learning particularly with Early Literacy Interventions.
  • Extensive work in mentoring and delivering professional development to other educators (administrators, teachers and associated professionals).
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in curriculum, instruction, assessment and resources related to second language literacy learning.
  • Experience designing second language literacy programs to diverse learning needs.
  • Knowledge and experience with Indigenous content with demonstrated professional development in First People's Principles of Learning.
  • Proven ability to work well as an integral part of a team which could include administrators, district leadership team, classroom teachers, support teachers, and associated professionals.
  • Exemplary leadership, interpersonal, organizational and consultation skills.
  • Strong initiative and a desire to be innovative in approach.
  • Strong technology skills to utilize a variety of delivery modes to educators, parents and students.
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and oral and proficiency in the French language

The starting full-time salary for this teaching position ranges from $60,015 and $109,520. Placement on a salary scale is subject to verification of experience and certification and will be done in accordance with the current collective agreement.
