On November 29, 2024, SPS became the police of jurisdiction, and assumed responsibility and command for policing and law enforcement in Surrey. POSITION OVERVIEW
Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Victim Services Team Supervisor to join our Community Partnerships Support Unit, within the Community Policing Bureau. Reporting to the Community Partnerships Manager, the Victim Services Team Supervisor is responsible for managing the development, coordination and delivery of victim services within Surrey Police Service. The incumbent will ensure that all clients receive timely, compassionate and effective support in accordance with the Canadian Victim Bill of Rights, the Victim’s of Crime act and departmental policies.
Schedule / Hours of Work
This is an on-site position and the anticipated schedule for this position is 40 hours per week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Supervises, schedules and reviews work of staff.
-
Provides training, guidance, direction, mentorship to the Victim Services Caseworkers and support staff.
-
Presents briefings and updates related to the work.
-
Prepares and maintains relevant files, records and reports.
-
Reviews and audits records and files for accuracy and completeness. Contributes to employee evaluations.
-
Suggests new and improved administrative methods and procedures to enhance efficiency.
-
Collaborates with other departments, agencies and levels of government.
-
Develops and fosters effective partnerships with diverse groups, including community organizations, agencies, and SPS Bureaus.
-
Acts as a liaison with various business units and agencies, responding to internal and external inquiries.
-
Assists in developing strategies and new initiatives.
-
Attend callouts to support staff when required.
-
Performs duties of Victim Services Caseworkers as required.
-
Makes recommendations based on policy, sound judgment and related principles.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Proficiency in preparing and maintaining complex records, correspondence, and reports.

Ability to provide guidance, direction, training, and mentoring to staff.

Maintains confidentiality in dealing with sensitive information.

Considerable knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of a Victim Services Program.

Considerable knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of crisis intervention and follow-up support, as related to the work performed.

Considerable knowledge of the counselling and other resource agencies at SPS.
-
Considerable knowledge of the criminal justice system, including the judiciary and corrections systems.
-
Excellent knowledge of the dynamics of trauma and loss within diverse cultures.
-
Excellent knowledge of applicable computer programs, including but not limited to PRIME and JUSTIN.
-
Thorough knowledge of Provincial and federal legislation related to the work.
-
Thorough knowledge of SPS’ operations, policies and procedures.
-
Ability to make recommendations on policies, procedures and operations.
-
Sound knowledge of police terminology and reporting procedures.
-
Strong knowledge of the Criminal Code
QUALIFICATIONS
-
Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by a post-secondary diploma/degree in a related field
-
A minimum of five year’s related experience including supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with a safe driving record.

This position requires both SPS Security Clearance and RCMP Reliability Status. All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS, which includes a mandatory polygraph examination.

The salary range is $41.57/hour to $47.13/hour (pay grade 27k) based on 2024 rates.
