DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will participate in the delivery of the Occupational Health Programs and Services including: employee incident management including identifying and processing WSIB claims; new employee health medicals; assessment and care and return to work guidance of injured and ill staff; staff TB testing and immunization; champion for influenza vaccination campaign; conduct exposure and outbreak surveillance activities; health promotion and teaching; and employee assistance and counselling. Responsible for ensuring confidentiality in accordance with PHIPA legislation and the LH Privacy policy. Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario

  • BScN or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Evidence of additional education, courses or training in Occupational Health Nursing

  • CNA Certification in Occupational Health Nursing or in process to be completed within 1 years of date of hire

  • Current B.C.L.S.

  • Experience as an Occupational Health Nurse preferably in a hospital environment or healthcare organization preferred

  • Knowledge of the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Disease Protocols preferred

  • Workplace incident investigation and WSIB claims submission and management experience

  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation including the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Ontario Human Rights Code

  • Proficient in the use of computers, keyboarding and software including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Meditech and Parklane

  • Excellent nursing assessment skills

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills including de-escalation skills and active listening

  • Able to work well under pressure and effectively deal with rapidly evolving situations and shifting priorities

  • Strong organizational skills, evidence of critical thinking abilities and problem solving skills are essential

  • Must have satisfactory performance record;

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this area;
