About the role

The Greater Essex County District School Board invites applications from interested, qualified candidates for the position of International Languages Instructor - American Sign Language (ASL). International Languages Instructor will instruct classes on Saturday mornings at a school site(s). Classes begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 12:00 noon commencing October 4, 2025.

Job Summary:

Position: International Languages Instructor - American Sign Language (ASL)

Duties: Instructing students to learn the language.

Term of appointment: October 2025 to May 9, 2026. This position is a 25 week assignment, extendable on an annual basis by agreement between both employer and employee.

Salary: $40.06 per hour (including pay for Vacation and Statutory Holidays) in accordance with the OSSTF Continuing Education Instructors Collective Agreement.

Nature & Scope of Position:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Demonstrate strong collaborative, presentation, written and oral communication skills to support the delivery of the program.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to and documented success in working to create a fair, inclusive, anti-racist environment for all stakeholders, and to supporting diverse constituencies and populations.
  • Assist with the promotion of the International Languages Program - American Sign Language.
  • Have experience working with youth and adult in the Deaf/hard of hearing community would be considered an asset.
  • Possess a current police clearance with a Vulnerable Sector Check which is required.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have at time of application:

  • Proficiency in computer skills such as but not limited to: Word, Excel or other database software.
  • Proficiency and fluency in American Sign Language.
  • Legally allowed to work in Canada, over the age of 18.
  • An interest and passion about languages.
  • Classroom experience considered an asset.
  • Effective organization, communication skills, and respect within the classroom environment.
