About the role

Req ID:494076

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, more than 80 000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Could you be the full-time System Engineer in Toronto, ON (12 months contract) we’re looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your technical expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside collaborative and forward-thinking teammates.

You'll play a central role in reducing the carbon footprint of Canada’s busiest public transit system by contributing to the GO Expansion project. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (such as rolling stock, electrification, civil and track, and operations and maintenance), develop system specifications, and ensure technical consistency across all project subsystems, and much more.

You’ll specifically take care of designing system solutions and formalizing system specifications, but also maintaining traceability of requirements and supporting technical discussions with the customer.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Analyzing input needs (external or internal) and requirements to design optimal system solutions
  • Providing technical interfaces with non-signaling teams
  • Formalizing and maintaining system specifications, application rules, and supporting process descriptions
  • Ensuring traceability throughout formal documentation and requirements
  • Developing interface specifications for external and internal subsystems
  • Coordinating with program team members to implement and revise designs
  • Supporting technical discussions with the customer and consortium teams
  • Applying Alstom standard processes and contributing to continuous improvement efforts

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Systems Engineering or equivalent design experience
  • Experience or understanding of signaling projects as a sub-system or system engineer
  • Knowledge of Wayside Signaling, Computer-Based Interlocking (CBI) solutions, and Wayside/Trackside environments
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as AREMA and CENELEC
  • A Professional Engineer certification (or in progress)
  • Experience with tools like DOORs and ClearQuest
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!

Important to note

As a global business, we’re an equal-opportunity employer that celebrates diversity across the 63 countries we operate in. We’re committed to creating an inclusive workplace for everyone.
