About the Role
MistyWest is seeking a skilled Mechatronics Contractor to support the development of cutting-edge hardware products across industries including wearables, connected devices, and advanced sensor systems. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with our multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, firmware, and industrial design engineers to prototype, integrate, and validate electromechanical systems. This is a hands-on, project-based contract position ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced consultancy environment and enjoys tackling complex, ambiguous technical challenges from concept through to functional prototypes.
MistyWest develops products in many innovative and unproven applications, so you must be obsessed with learning new skills and technology as well as highly comfortable with ambiguity and the unknown. You are used to working with diverse product development teams and are a great communicator. You thrive in collaborative environments and look forward to working in our beautiful offices in Mount Pleasant a minimum of one day per week.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent engineering degree with electro-mechanical focus.
- At least three years of previous work experience in hardware product design at the systems level
- At least one year of experience translating company/client product vision into technical requirements
- Multidisciplinary experience (mechanical, electronics, firmware, software) is a must
- Experience applying systems engineering methods to complex systems which integrate sensors, optical systems, motion control, and various communication protocols
- Comfortable spinning up and quickly evaluating prototypes with microcontrollers and SBCs
- Experience using common electronics lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, multimeter, function generator)
- Have a hands-on approach, are comfortable prototyping, and enjoy working in a workshop including 3D printers, power tools and hand tools

Nice-To-Have Qualifications (in order of preference):
- Experience in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
- Experience with miniature-mechanical design and wearables
- Experience with PCB design for schematic capture (Altium preferred)
- Some comfort level with production firmware for microcontrollers (FreeRTOS, Zephyr)
- Valid passport and the ability to travel internationally on occasion
