As a Junior Subdivision Engineer, you will support in reviewing and commenting on geometric roadway design issues for subdivisions within Calgary. You will review development permits and construction drawings, provide comments on non-standard engineering designs flagged by technologists, and coordinate with other units and external customers to develop a design that meets engineering standards. You will also review outline plans, legal plans, and other relevant studies that require a geometric design review. Primary duties include:
- Review construction drawings and development permits; assist in addressing questions regarding non-standard designs, including modified curb extensions, superelevation design, roundabout details, and barrier design.
- Provide solutions to basic applicant questions.
- Support in the communication and coordination of files, including development permits and construction drawing reviews.
- Review meeting agendas and minutes and ensure records are in order.
- Write technical and nontechnical letters and responses to internal and external customers.
- Study existing and new standards to stay up to date on specifications and guidelines, presenting information to the team when relevant.
- Build and foster solid working relationships with internal and external customers.
Qualifications
- A degree in Engineering and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. Click here for more details.
- Experience in geometric design for roadways and knowledge of City Design Guidelines for Subdivision Servicing, Construction Specifications for roadways, and Transportation Association of Canada's Geometric Design Guide will be considered assets.
- Experience in roadway operations, construction, and maintenance would be considered assets.
- Knowledge of policies and guidelines that govern urban development within The City would be considered an asset.
- The successful candidate will possess professional judgment, effective communication and negotiating skills, as well as planning, analytical, and organization skills.

Location: 800 Macleod Trail SE
Compensation: Level P2E $100,368 - 125,460 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
