About the role

CBCL is seeking a Climate Resilience EIT to join our Climate Change team in Halifax, NS, Saint John, NB, or St. John’s NL to assist and support climate risk and adaptation projects.

Climate Change at CBCL is a fast-growing discipline with an international portfolio. In this role you will help municipalities, private industries, and federal/provincial governments identify climate change risks that could impact their existing and planned infrastructure and identify adaptation solutions to address the identified climate change risks.

Typical projects could include evaluating how climate change will impact electrical generation from renewable energy systems such as solar or wind farms; buildings electrical, structural, envelope, and mechanical systems; natural resource and industrial sectors; dams, bridges, and various municipal infrastructure/operations. In addition to our climate change focused projects, CBCL also incorporates climate change resiliency into many of our day-to-day projects. We currently have climate change projects in many Canadian provinces, in the Northern Territories, as well as globally.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of climate change risk analysis and adaptation planning studies that feed into conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for a full range of infrastructure projects;
  • Support the development of climate change adaptation plans, risk assessments, and studies;
  • Assess climate change projections; and
  • Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations.

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Degree in Engineering or applied science in a related field will also be considered;
  • 1–2 years of experience in climate change adaptation, or at least 1 year in a similar role;
  • Hands-on exposure to climate change risk assessments and adaptation projects, with the ability to work with risk assessment methodologies, interpret climate data, and review technical documents, design drawings, or condition reports;
  • If you have an engineering background: registration with a provincial engineering association, or actively working toward your P.Eng. designation;
  • Experience coordinating project tasks, facilitating workshops, or engaging with stakeholders (or comparable experience) is an asset;
  • Previous experience in a consulting environment is considered an asset; and
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to job sites occasionally.
