Government House is a premier tourism and educational facility that celebrates and promotes the rich history and identity of the province of Saskatchewan.
Government House is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader for the position of Assistant Manager. In this role, you will leverage your management experience and understanding of museums to support the oversight of all major museum functions. You will lead staff and manage departmental activities, which include temporary and permanent exhibitions and their tangible interpretation, and collections management including care and tangible interpretation. This position is responsible for developing, interpreting, and reviewing business lines associated with Government House management. You will be responsible for building and maintaining strong and positive work relationships with tenants and users of Government House. All of these activities are aimed at fulfilling and promoting the Government House mandate, goals and objectives.
This includes responsibilities such as:

Facility Administration
- Ensure operational efficiency and strategic alignment of the exhibit and collections department with Government House’s mission.

Research Coordination
- Support the development of accurate and engaging interpretive materials and respond to public and institutional inquiries.

Collections Management
- Preserve and manage the Government House collection in accordance with professional standards and legal requirements.

Exhibit Management
- Develop and maintain exhibitions that are mission-driven, engaging, and educational, including travelling and community exhibits.

Digital and Public Engagement
- Enhance public outreach through digital platforms and support communication strategies.

Grant and Partnership Management
- Secure and manage external funding to support strategic initiatives and oversee staff funded through these partnerships.

Leadership Support
- Provide continuity in leadership by assuming managerial responsibilities during the Manager’s absence.
Ideal Candidate
To be successful in the role, you will have knowledge of:
- Museum Practices: In-depth understanding of collections management, exhibit development, and preservation standards.
- Government Structure: Familiarity with public service systems and inter-agency collaboration.
- Heritage and Cultural Sector: Knowledge of provincial and national museum networks and heritage organizations.
- Environmental Controls: Understanding of museum environmental standards (e.g., temperature, humidity, lighting).
- Education: Certificate or diploma in Museum Studies or a related field, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
- Experience: Demonstrated experience in museum or heritage property management, including staff supervision and strategic planning.
You will have the ability to -
- Lead teams, manage projects, and assume managerial duties when required.
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills for internal coordination and public engagement.
- Capacity to align departmental activities with organizational goals and contribute to long-term planning.
- Proficiency in enhancing public outreach through digital platforms and support communication strategies.
- Ability to identify funding opportunities and managing grant-related projects.
- Ability to conduct and coordinate research, and produce interpretive content
