Position Summary:
We are currently recruiting a Janitor to join our team in Calgary, AB at our Calgary 8 facility. The Janitor is responsible for carrying out janitorial procedures within the plant using appropriate products, equipment and techniques in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine cleaning and janitorial duties throughout office, production, lunchroom, washroom, and common areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and sanitize floors, surfaces, and fixtures.
- Clean and service washrooms, including replenishing paper products, soap, and other supplies.
- Empty garbage, recycling, and waste containers and dispose of waste in accordance with site procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness of lunchrooms, break areas, locker rooms, and other employee spaces.
- Clean windows, walls, doors, and other surfaces as assigned.
- Operate and maintain janitorial tools and equipment, including floor cleaning equipment and other custodial machinery.
- Handle, store, and use cleaning products and chemicals in accordance with safety procedures, WHMIS requirements, and manufacturer instructions.
- Report maintenance concerns, unsafe conditions, or supply shortages to the Lead Hand and/or management.
- Support plant housekeeping standards and assist with general housekeeping tasks in support of operational needs.
- Perform periodic deep cleaning and special cleaning projects as assigned.
- Maintain janitorial supply inventories and assist with restocking materials as required.
- Comply with all company policies, collective agreement provisions, and health and safety requirements.
- Complete any other duties or assignments as delegated by the Lead Hand and/or management.
Qualifications & Experience:
Please note this is a unionized position; below are the qualifications and competencies required for this role and corresponds with wages outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Previous janitorial, custodial, industrial cleaning, or related experience preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of janitorial products, equipment, cleaning methods, and safe work procedures.
- Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals and equipment; WHMIS knowledge required or willingness to obtain.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, bending, standing, walking, and repetitive tasks.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize routine tasks effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and compliance with established procedures.
- Reliability, dependability, and regular attendance required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. as required.
- Ability to work around industrial noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
