Hybrid Work:
This is a hybrid work position in Calgary, Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) 3 days per week. This provides flexibility the remaining 40% of the work week. This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration and networking with our colleagues. Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.

Reporting to the Assistant Financial Controller, The Manager-Financial Reporting will be responsible for leading the financial reporting and technical accounting at WestJet.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the production of accurate and timely financial information;

  • Responsibility for all financial reporting documents including, but not limited to:

  • Quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and note disclosure;

  • Quarterly and annual Management, Discussion and Analysis (MD&A)

  • Ensure efficient and effective implementation of all authoritative accounting pronouncements, including appropriate analysis of potential impact of future changes;

  • Lead the technical accounting research for accounting issues arising from the business including the documentation, support and conclusions on accounting issues;

  • Overall responsibility for complex accounting areas including;

  • Planning, organizing and coordinating the year-end and quarterly close process including coordination with the external and internal auditors;

  • Technical accounting subject matter expert providing guidance and advice to various business units and senior management on various accounting matters;

  • Establishing and maintaining controls over financial reporting, including the preparation of the financial statements and the MD&A;

Experience and qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 to 7 years relevant post-qualification experience, including experience in a leadership role (previous experience at a Big 4 firm preferred)

  • Accounting Designation required (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA)

  • Completion of post-secondary education in Business Administration/Commerce (accounting or Finance) is required

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge in IFRS

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

  • Attention to detail, organized and thorough, with a strong desire for continuous improvement

  • Ability to handle pressure and meet tight timelines
