Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
Operationalize the Ottawa Toy Mountain work plan and provide overall supervision to the day-to-day operations of the campaign ensuring its annual objectives are met.
Hours of Work:
September to October: Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
November to December 24: Hours include evenings and Saturdays (44 hours per week)
Contract Ends January 16, 2026
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Follow the campaign operational manual and create a floor plan to ensure the keys areas – admin, sorting, setting up, receiving and packing toys – work efficiently, timely, and in a safe manner.
- Collaborate with the Director of Community Services and Spiritual Care on the procurement of all necessary items such as tables, draping, bags, labels, cages, toys etc.
- In collaboration with the Director of Community Services and Spiritual Care, lead the recruitment and training process for all Toy Mountain workers, including referral agencies and satellite locations – optimizing safety for all staff and volunteers.
- Collaborate with Ottawa Booth Centre’s volunteer coordinator to create a volunteer schedule to supplement the Toy Mountain Employee Team Schedule.
- Act as first point of contact with community partners - including coordinating of agency toy pick ups, collaborating with Public Relations, media and promotional needs during the campaign.
- Direct staff and volunteers on day-to-day tasks – including daily toy inventory and accurate record keeping of toys, proper sorting and packing of toy bags, and ensuring toy areas are replenished daily.
- Respond to any community concerns or complaints regarding the Toy Mountain process and escalate when necessary to Public Relations Team
- Ensure all the required campaign documentation is completed in a timely manner, including weekly staff timesheets for payroll and approvals
- Connect with Ottawa Booth Centre’s Manager of Community Services with toys not useable for Toy Mountain campaign and coordinate delivery efficiently to the Community & Family Services Department.
- At the conclusion of the campaign, compile statistical data as requested, complete detailed postmortem, inventory, and provide information necessary for evaluation of the campaign.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a temporary position.
- Shifts may include days, afternoons, and evening shifts, Monday through Saturday, flexibility in scheduling is required.
- Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per operational requirements.
- Work environment is typically a warehouse environment requiring constant walking and standing
- Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs. (10 kg) on own and up to 100 pounds with assistance

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Previous experience and/or education in campaign operations, as well as recruitment and supervision of paid/unpaid staff is an asset
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Minimum of one (1) year of prior related supervision experience is an asset
- Strong skills in all Microsoft Office products and good working knowledge and experience with email and internet-based programs
- Valid Ontario “G” driver’s license and current clean driver’s abstracted dated within the last 30 days
- Current regular police background check acceptable to The Salvation Army

- Good organization, strong oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated and disciplined
- Participate as an active and responsible team member.
- Ability to represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner.

- Ability to work with little supervision but also able to accept direction when necessary.

- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.61 to $22.01 with a maximum of $26.41.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
