Join Dr. Oetker's Pizza Production Team in London, Ontario

Our 3rd Class Operating Engineers work in a highly automated plant, as part of our facility maintenance group, working alongside our maintenatnce department.

Our London facility, home to around 300 associates, features highly automated, high-volume production lines crafting our well-loved Ristorante, Casa di Mama, and Giuseppe pizzas.

In our facility, we transform raw materials like flour and yeast into delicious pizza crusts, topped with savory sauce and fresh ingredients, before freezing and packaging them for retail distribution.

Position: 3rd Class Operating Engineer

The Operating Engineer plays a critical role in safely operating and maintaining the ammonia powerplant. In addition, maintaining and monitoring of essential building systems. This role focuses on ensuring the reliability and functionality of essential systems, adopting a culture of safety, and maintaining high standards of operational efficiency. This role demands a proactive and safety-conscious individual with strong technical expertise in building systems, mechanical infrastructure, and emergency response. Training for specialized tasks will be provided, and all employees must maintain a high standard of safety, reliability, and professionalism.

Reporting to the Facility & Utilities Manager/Chief Refrigeration Operator and working a Continental Shift Structure you will:

  • Ensure the seamless, efficient and safe operation of our facilities guarded ammonia system, ensuring compliance with all operator regulations.

  • Oversee operations of overall building systems, including heating, ventilation, refrigeration, air-conditioning and fire safety systems.

  • Respond promptly to emergencies to ensure the safety of employees and facilities.

  • Maintain accurate records for facility & utility activities, regulatory inspections, and regulatory audits.

  • Collaborate with team members to analyze root causes of building utility downtime and implement corrective actions.

  • Perform general building maintenance tasks, including light carpentry, painting, plumbing repairs, and minor fixes.

  • Strictly adhere to all safety, food safety, GMP, HACCP, WHMIS, and other regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Hold a valid TSSA 3rd Class Operating Engineer or higher.
  • Proven experience working with industrial ammonia refrigeration system.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts on a Pitman schedule (2-2-3, rotating every two weeks). This schedule generates 8 hours overtime (1.5 times) for each 80 hour pay period worked.
  • Must pass FIT testing and maintain a clean-shaven appearance as required.
  • Capable of wearing full respirator masks, including SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus), as provided.
  • Ability to wear Level "A" suits (training will be provided).
  • Mechanically inclined, with working knowledge of building systems such as HVAC and related infrastructure as well as mechanical hand tools and power tools.
  • Comfortable working at heights when required.
  • Possess or be willing to obtain First Aid certification.
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and CMMS Software, SAP PM Module is preferred.
  • Knowledge of HACCP and food safety standards is an asset.
