About the role
The Fit Tester is responsible for conducting qualitative N95 respirator fit testing for students and instructors enrolled in Health Care programs at Stenberg College. This position ensures individuals meet clinical placement or workplace requirements where respiratory protection is mandatory. The role involves testing facilitation, health and safety education, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform N95 respirator fit testing following SafeCare BC or Fraser Health protocols.
- Instruct students and instructors on the correct donning, doffing, and user seal checks of N95 masks.
- Accurately complete and maintain fit test documentation and records.
- Sanitize and maintain all fit testing equipment and supplies.
- Coordinate testing schedules with program coordinators and staff.
- Adhere to infection control, occupational health, and safety procedures.
Qualifications:
- Certified Fit Tester through SafeCare BC or Fraser Health, or willingness to complete certification prior to starting.
- Experience in fit testing, occupational health and safety, or a healthcare-related field is considered an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to educate diverse learner groups.
- Self-motivated and organized, with strong time management skills.
- Basic administrative and computer skills for record-keeping.
Training Requirements:
- Fit Tester Training must be completed through an approved provider (SafeCare BC or Fraser Health) and includes:
- Fundamentals of respiratory protection and fit testing.
- Training in qualitative methods using Bitrex or saccharin.
- Hands-on mask fitting, inspection, and hygiene protocols.
- Infection control best practices and testing competency demonstration.
Working Conditions:
- Part-time contract position based on program needs.
- Hours vary and may include weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
- Testing takes place at the Stenberg College main campus.
- Fit testing sessions are booked in 30-minute intervals, with groups of up to 8 students. Sessions range from 2 to 4 hours.
