Overview This role is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of aquatic amenities such as pools and fountains. Key duties include monitoring water quality, maintaining chemical balance, servicing equipment (e.g., pumps, motors, gauges), and ensuring compliance with public health regulations. The technician performs preventive maintenance, supports seasonal shutdowns and winterization, and collaborates with trades for complex repairs.
Please note work location is variable. The successful candidate will be working out of all pool locations.
There Will Be Rotating Shifts Wednesday to Sunday 6AM to 2PM;
Wednesday to Sunday 1PM to 9PM
Responsibilities
- Maintains and operates water features, including pools and fountains and as well as related mechanisms and equipment .
- Monitors aquatic facility equipment and systems to ensure proper functioning, using a control check sheets .
- Tests water to ensure adherence to public health and other government regulations .
- Perform s daily water quality checks for chemical balancing .
- Tests, calibrates and/or replaces chemical monitoring probes .
- Replace s chemical monitoring probes in accordance with the established preventive maintenance plan .
- Monitors and repairs diving boards and deck equipment .
- Replaces or reinstalls chemical pump/motors .
- Replace s or install pressure gauges and chlorine/acid lines.
- Troubleshoots and assesses equipment and building needs, repairs and/or reports problems that requires expertise to associated trades by means of reporting to lead hand, Supervisor of City Works FM service request portal .
- Orders and procures aquatic equipment and supplies, e.g., chemicals .
- Forecasts, orders and procures aquatics-related supplies ( e.g. , pool chemicals and equipment) to ensure uninterrupted facility operations.
- Writes daily reports to track maintenance activities and purchases .
- Performs security functions, including arming and disarming alarms and ensuring external doors are locke d.
- Instruct s part-time staff as required .
- Perform s all preventive maintenance in accordance with the established preventive maintenance plan .
- Participate s in annual pool shutdowns, summarizes and winterize s aquatics related amenities .
- Assist s plumbers with winterizing of pools .
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- M inimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent .
- Minimum of 1-year related experience.
- A bility to support and project values compatible with the organization .
- V alid Pool and Hot tub Alliance (formally NSPF) Certified Pool Operators Certification .
- K nowledge of Health Protection and Promotion Act Regulation 494/17 for Public Pools .
- Knowledge and understanding of Amusement Devices Act for Waterslides as per TSSA.
- K nowledge of Building Code, Fire Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Electrical Safety Authority Standards .
- V alid MTO Class ‘G’ Driver’s License in good standing and provide Drivers Abstract at your own expense as a condition of employment.
- Good verbal communication skills in order to work and communicate effectively with the public and other staff members in a polite and personable manner .
- Abl e to keep accurate written records .
- Must successfully complete required progression criteria as it relates to this job title .
- A ble to work independently and with others in a team environment .
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Must be willing to work afternoon and weekend shifts
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
