Carpenter Canada Co. has an immediate opening for a Health & Safety Specialist at ourCalgary, ABmanufacturing plant. The successful candidate will be expected tolead and coordinate health & safety programs, conduct inspections, and audits, as well as health & safety meetings and training sessions.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Monitor safety performance and conduct health & safety audits and inspection activities.
- Provide direction as a subject matter expert on the application and interpretation of health & safety rules, procedures, and standards.
- Identify hazardous conditions, determine and establish safety procedures and controls, and implements and enforce standard safe work procedures.
- Assist with the development of written safety policies, procedures, work practices, and guidance documents.
- Ensure all personnel is trained in safety protocols and programs associated with their work.
- Conduct health & safety training sessions.
- Assist with the development and coordination of emergency response procedures.
- Respond to emergency calls or events and assist as needed.
- Participate in all incident investigations, draft reports, and monitor implementation of corrective actions.
- Manage WCB account, modified work programs, and applicable reports.
Qualifications and Skills
- High School Diploma or GED. Post-secondary education is an asset.
- 2 - 3 years of health & safety experience in a lean manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act & Regulations, WHMIS, First Aid, and CPR training.
- Problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Demonstrated communication skills.
- Strong sense of urgency, accountability, and can-do attitude.
- Must possess high-level proficiency with MS Office Suite.
- COR auditor experience is an asset.
