POSITION/TITLE: On-Call Teacher
REPORTS TO: Principal / Vice Principal
START DATE: As soon as possible
STATUS: Casual / On-Call
WAGE: Commensurate TQS Category and years of experience
About the Position
We are seeking qualified, caring, and flexible teachers to join our on-call list to provide classroom coverage as needed. On-call teachers play an important role in supporting student learning by maintaining a positive, engaging, and culturally responsive learning environment when regular classroom teachers are away.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver instruction and manage classroom activities following the regular teacher’s plans and routines.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for all students.
- Support learning aligned with the BC Curriculum and, where applicable, Indigenous or local cultural teachings.
- Adapt quickly to different grade levels, subjects, and classroom contexts.
- Communicate effectively with school staff, students, and families as required.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance and student progress as directed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent.
- Valid BC Teaching Certificate (TRB) or eligibility for certification.
- Knowledge of the BC Curriculum and effective instructional practices.
- Experience working with diverse learners, including Indigenous students, is an asset.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to inclusive, student-centered, and culturally responsive teaching.
Assets (preferred but not required)
- Familiarity with Secwepemc language, culture, and land-based learning.
- Previous experience in Indigenous or rural schools.
- Flexibility to accept short-notice assignments.
