Assistant Director of Care

This position is for CROSSING BRIDGE, located in Stittsville, Ontario

What you’ll be doing:

Assists the DOC in the implementation and evaluation of the nursing department quality improvement initiatives, risk management systems, data collection and analysis, report writing, procedural updates.

Takes the lead in the coordination and implementation of best practice and risk management initiatives related to resident care (i.e. falls, restraint use, wound management, Infection Control)

Effectively manages utilization of nursing supplies

Responsible for the High Intensity Needs program

Maintains a system of care assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation at the resident and unit program level that maximizes staff resources and contributes to interdisciplinary team approach to resident care

Effectively supports the RAI-MDS program and our BSO Program

Maintains an active presence in the Resident Home Areas mentoring staff while overseeing the provision of quality resident care

Initiates investigative and corrective actions related to occupational health and safety; develops and monitors modified work programs for nursing personnel

Works collaboratively with the Director of Care on special projects, reviews, and other duties as be assigned

Identify areas of improvement for staff development and work with the DOC to ensure overall effectiveness of the nursing department

Advocating for ethical and effective practice in all areas in the organization

Assisting the DOC with input to Performance Appraisals

Focusing on Resident Centered Care Needs as required by MOH LTC Home Legislation and Extendicare Policies

Actively participates in the palliative care program, goals of care and advanced care planning

Assumes responsibility for the nursing department in the absence of the DOC

Successful candidate will be required to be on-call, as per schedule

What you bring:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working as a Registered Nurse in the long-term care sector
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in a managerial

or supervisory capacity in a health care setting

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the applicable Provincial licensing body is

required

  • Bachelor or Master of Nursing preferred
  • Current CPR designation is required
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
  • Professional competencies related to life-long learning, public relations and health

environment awareness

  • Possession of strong motivational, team building and time management skills
  • Must be computer literate in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset

Current knowledge of clinical issues for geriatric residents, infection control, principles of adult education and quality improvement

Knowledge of RAI MDS is considered an asset
