Position Overview
The Kiewit Power Engineering Group is seeking several Mid to Senior level Structural Designers to join our growing Calgary team!
In this role, the Structural Designers should have a good understanding of design modeling, design drawing/document creation, and data exchange using Building Information Modeling (BIM). Experience in foundation and steel design is required.
The ideal candidates will grow with the team by helping to establish, maintain, and improve standards and tools while contributing to project success.
Depending on experience, the position may be at a Mid-Level or Senior level. This position will serve as a technical resource to support junior designers and engineers. Candidates must be comfortable working closely with Structural Design Engineers and other discipline team members to drive coordination and collaboration.

We are a highly performing team of engineers and designers that develop projects through the project life cycle engaging in exciting projects throughout North America. Our staff leads the power markets engineering process and collaborates with Kiewit’s construction teams to approach construction-driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost-effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit’s legacy of excellence.
Location
This position is based out of Calgary, Alberta with flexible work options.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with design team members to review and exchange project information necessary for design and development.
- Review designs for consistency, safety, operability, and maintenance requirements prior to submission.
- Report task progress to the Lead Designer.
- Gather required information and collaborate with engineers and multiple disciplines to develop BIM models for foundations and steel structures.
- Leverage Building Information Modeling (BIM) to create plans, drawings, and detailed designs.
- Assist in the development and continuous improvement of department standards and tools.
- Mentor team members in design and modeling techniques, providing guidance and technical support.
- Resolve design issues effectively in coordination with the responsible engineer.
Qualifications
- A technical school degree in Computer Aided Design with a focus on Building Information Modeling (BIM). A combination of related education and experience may be considered.
- A minimum of 4+ years of structural design experience is required.
- Experience using Tekla is preferred.
- Demonstrates ability to interpret multi-discipline engineering and vendor documents.
- Displays leadership and confidence to monitor peers, especially those with less experience in drafting and design.
- Must have a basic knowledge of the latest computer operating systems.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and constructively with other team members and disciplines, both verbally and in written form.
- Knowledge of basic spreadsheet, database, word processing programs.
- Must be able to represent Kiewit Engineering & Design Co. in a professional manner to owners, contractors, vendors, and any other contacts outside the Kiewit Engineering & Design Co. organization.

Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
