Kichton Construction LP commenced operations in 2019 as the industrial division of the Kichton Group to serve the Energy and Mining Industries throughout North America. Since inception, KCLP has grown sustainably and exponentially, starting with 30 experienced team members in 2019, to now over 400 team members and over 300 pieces of heavy equipment. KCLP is proud to continue operating alongside our Community Partner, the Chipewyan Prairie First Nation, as part of our NOHA/Kichton Joint-Venture.
The RoleWe are seeking a full-timeJourneyperson Heavy Equipment Technicianto work out of our Fort McMurray, Alberta shop. The ideal candidate is local to Fort McMurray and has 5+ years of experience. He/she is hardworking, self-motivated and reliable. This position reports into the Maintenance Manager.
Location/Job Details

  • Fort McMurray Shop

  • Rotation - 2 x 2, 2 x 1, 6 x 1

  • 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.

  • Fast-paced, busy work environment.

  • Repetitive bending and lifting up to 50 pounds required.

  • Some travel required in various weather conditions to boost or repair equipment when it breaks down.

  • Shop has Snap-on scanner.

  • Own tools required.

Compensation/Benefits

  • $56.00 to $60.00 per hour with OT at 1.5 x the regular rate (bi-weekly pay).

  • OT after 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week

  • 9.6% Vacation and Statutory Holiday pay on all regular hours paid out bi-weekly.

  • $2.00 per hour increase after 90 days subject to a successfully performance review.

  • Extended health, dental, vison, travel and paramedical coverage after 90 days.

Responsibilities/Job Duties

  • Troubleshoot and repair various types of Heavy Equipment.

  • Complete detailed service and repair reports at the end of each shift.

  • Capable of retrieving, decoding, fault codes on equipment.

  • Diagnose and decide if vehicle repairs are warranty or above your scope of repairs.

  • Responsible for sourcing part numbers and working with the Parts Department to order parts and filters for repairs.

  • Complete daily documentation thoroughly, including: FLHAs, timesheets, pre and post inspections of all tools and equipment, etc.

  • Review, understand, and follow all safe work practices and procedures.

  • Report incidents, near misses, equipment damage, and hazards to Supervisors immediately.

  • Positively participate in all toolbox talks and all applicable company/site meetings.

Education/Qualifications/Training

  • 5+ years working in a similar role preferrable in a mine setting.

  • Journeyperson HET certificate required.

  • Experience troubleshooting.

  • Must be proficient in English, both verbally and written.

  • Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a good driver's abstract.

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

  • Must provide basic tools up to 1-1/4” wrenches and socket sets, including pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, punches, etc.

  • WHMIS 2015 certification (can be provided for free through ACSA).

  • Ability to use electronic devices (cell phone) and able to adapt to new technologies as industry changes.

Kichton Contracting Ltd (KCL) has been in business since 1963 and is based out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. KCL is classified as a medium sized civil earthworks contractor. Our work ranges from residential earthworks, commercial site development to industrial projects. Our services include grading design for all types of new commercial and industrial sites along with retrofitting existing sites to accommodate new site development.

Once we have satisfied the client with the design, we extend our services to provide the equipment, labour and materials necessary to complete the work. With our experience in both the civil and building construction industry we are able to provide a complete project. At KCL we strive to stay current with new industry regulations and requirements.
