Office Clerk

Seeking qualified individuals to perform a variety of clerical assignments including: producing typewritten correspondence, reports and agency forms; answering the phone; assisting the public; maintaining files, and other related duties. Open positions include both permanent part-time and full-time positions.

Minimum requirements are one year of related clerical experience involving operation of personal computer or data entry terminal; may be required to produce typewritten material at a rate of 40 wpm.

Candidates will be considered for positions within various Judicial Districts and the Hartford Judicial Branch Call Center. Limiting availability by limiting Judicial Districts in which you will work may impact your ability to be hired. Selection of a Judicial District indicates willingness to accept assignment at any location within the District and may not be limited by the applicant.

DIVISION: Branch-Wide

CLASS DEFINITION: This class is accountable for receiving on the job training and for attaining increasing skills in operation of data entry equipment, word processing, document processing, public service and general office support in a judicial service environment.

GUIDELINES FOR CLASS USE: This class consolidates the working titles: Office Clerk and Data Terminal Operator Trainee. Incumbents in this class may be designated to receive training in data terminal operation or in general judicial office support or a combination of both, according to the needs of the work unit, and to serve in an entry level in any of those capacities. Incumbents may be selected to follow a data terminal operation track or a general administrative support track. In either track, incumbents may perform a range of administrative support tasks involving data entry, data coding, filing, word processing, customer service, basic bookkeeping or other court services assignments. The class is intended to provide a range of skills and abilities for upward advancement of incumbents into other court services assignments and to provide incumbents with a range of skills and abilities for supporting court operations.

Incumbents in this class will progress to Administrative Clerk I after two years of satisfactory experience in this class.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the close supervision of an employee of higher grade.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Produces typewritten and word-processed material such as court reports, correspondence, financial and statistical statements and other documents; operates and receives training in operating data entry equipment; processes forms and documents such as purchasing, billing and agency forms; may receive, record and disburse money; may maintain records and summaries; meets and greets public visitors and performs other personal receptionist duties; answers telephones, routes calls and provides information regarding agency procedures; may make records of assignments and dispositions of court cases during court proceedings; maintains and batches files, forms and documents; may prepare documents for data entry including reviewing such documents for apparent errors; operates a variety of office equipment such as copiers, printers and similar equipment; performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: One year of related clerical experience involving operation of personal computer or data entry terminal; may be required to produce typewritten material at a rate of 40 wpm.
