**Tumbler Ridge Elementary School **
Tumbler Ridge Elementary School is located in the scenic town of Tumbler Ridge, BC. Tumbler Ridge is a quiet town, even on the busiest of days. The town offers a quick commute to the schools and the ability to walk anywhere you want to go. There are so many things for families to do in the small town, nestled in the mountains. There are plenty of parks all over town, easy hikes for children of all ages and there is even the opportunity to walk where dinosaurs once walked millions of years ago.
The Community Centre offers numerous free, and reasonably priced, activities after school and the pool is a great place to visit any time of the year. Snowmobiling, cross country skiing, curling along with golfing at our nine-hole course are just a few of the other activities that many families enjoy. The slow-paced lifestyle is one you will grow to appreciate, especially after visiting other busier communities on the weekend. The ideal teacher candidate begins with students at the heart of their practice; teaching the learner, not just the curriculum. They create inclusive classrooms where students of all abilities feel valued, supported, and challenged. We are seeking teachers who are open-minded professionals who collaborate, reflect, and continuously learn to improve their craft. Grounded in research-based practice and guided by care, they strive to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed and thrive.
**Required qualifications and experience: **
- Hold, or be qualified for, a valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate
- Successful K-12 teacher training and practicum or evaluation documentation
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
**Desired qualifications and experience include: **
- Experience with adapting, and modifying, curriculum to meet the needs of students
- Ability to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with diverse needs
- Strong classroom management skills
- Experience working with students who display a variety of behaviours
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills
- Willingness to work and implement school initiatives and goals
- Capacity to work independently and in collaboration with a team
- Committed to individualized and group instruction utilizing a variety of effective strategies and techniques
- Experience teaching in a multiage group setting
- Engages in fair, student focused assessment practices consistent with the BC curriculum and reporting order, and reflects on evidence of learning to guide instruction

- Relocation Allowance: Up to $5,000 for out of district applicants (with submission of approved receipts)
- Northern Travel Allowance: A Great Benefit at Tax Time! An amount of up to $4,000 of the salary paid to the employee shall be designated as a Northern Allowance Travel benefit. This allowance shall be in effect within the guidelines of Revenue Canada as they exist and are changed by Revenue Canada from year to year and shall end when the Revenue Canada program ends. Regular part time employees’ allowance will be prorated proportionate to the hours worked
- Remote and Rural Allowance: Teachers working in School District No. 59 are eligible to receive a remote and rural allowance, which is both an adjustment to the salary grid and an annual allowance of approximately $3,035* per FTE. Teachers on call (TOCs) are not eligible to receive this allowance
*The annual allowance may increase as defined within the Collective Agreement with the British Columbia Teachers Federation. **Did you know? **
Effective December 31, 2025 School District No. 59 teachers are eligible for the Canada Student Loan Forgiveness Program for up to $30,000.
Employees of School District No. 59 qualify for the Canadian Revenue Agency Residency Deduction. Learn more about the Canadian Revenue Agency Residency Deduction. If you lived in a prescribed intermediate zone (Zone B), you can claim:
- A basic residency amount of $5.50 for each day that you lived in this zone; plus
- An additional residency amount of $5.50 for each day you lived in this zone if you maintained a dwelling and you are the only person claiming the basic residency amount for that period and dwelling
