About the role

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) will provide patient care in an ambulatory clinic setting, functioning as an active member of the multidisciplinary health care team using a client centered approach. The role includes all aspects of care for the obstetrics and gynecology patient within the RPN scope of practice. The role encompasses patient assessment, care, support and health teaching as well as procedure room set up and equipment management.

  1. Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
  2. Current BCLS
  3. Successful completion of a recognized Perinatal Certificate program, or evidence of work in progress
  4. Successful completion of a recognized Breast-feeding Certificate program, or evidence of work in progress
  5. Successful completion of a fundamental fetal surveillance program, or evidence of work in progress
  6. Recent (within the past 2 years) experience in the care and psychosocial support of women and their families throughout pregnancy and postpartum, including during perinatal bereavement
  7. Recent (within the past 2 years) experience in the care and support of women with gynecological concerns
  8. Current knowledge of the physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the pregnant woman and her family
  9. Demonstrated knowledge, skill and ability in the health teaching of women and their families during pregnancy and to women with gynecologic concerns
  10. Demonstrated knowledge of instruments and equipment used in gynecology
  11. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply safe ergonomic principles while performing duties
  12. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team
