Position Title: Senior Manager, Philanthropy

Reports to: Director, Philanthropy Partnerships

I. Scope and Summary of Primary Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Philanthropy, the Senior Manager, Philanthropy will develop and execute tailored strategies to secure 6- and 7-figure philanthropic gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations. This role manages a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals and institutional funders, cultivating relationships to maximize engagement and long-term impact. The position requires exceptional skills as a communicator and partnership builder, with proven ability to deliver on ambitious targets.

II. Essential Functions

  • Develop and execute tailored strategies to secure 5- and 6- figure philanthropic gifts, primarily focused on individuals and foundations.
  • Manage a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, cultivating relationships to maximize engagement and long-term impact.
  • Identify and cultivate new donor prospects and foundation funding opportunities.
  • Develop customized proposals that align with donor philanthropic interests and organizational priorities.
  • Oversee stewardship and reporting for donors and foundation gifts, ensuring timely and impactful recognition.
  • Oversee donor pipeline development, including prospect identification, research, and qualification.
  • Develop compelling proposals, impact reports, and donor stewardship materials.
  • Conduct face-to-face meetings, presentations, and site visits to inspire donors and align their philanthropic goals with CNIB’s mission.
  • Work with senior leadership and volunteers to facilitate donor cultivation and solicitation strategies.

III. Qualifications

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Proven ability to build and sustain relationships with major donors and stakeholders.
  • Exceptional storytelling, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation, persuasion, and strategic planning abilities.
  • Experience managing campaigns is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and donor prospecting tools.
  • Knowledge of best practices in donor stewardship, moves management, and philanthropic trends.
  • Adheres to applicable privacy laws as well as AFP, CAGP and CNIB standards of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Exceptional organizational and administrative skills with a focus on efficiency.
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Occasional travel is required.
  • Driver's license is an asset, but not required.

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in fundraising, business development, or a related field.
  • 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in major gift fundraising.
  • Demonstrated success in securing 5- and 6-figure gifts from high-net-worth individuals and foundations.

Work Environment

This role operates in a hybrid work environment, combining remote work with in-person donor meetings and networking events, particularly in major urban centers. Flexibility is essential to accommodate varying schedules and time zones across Canada. The role requires regular virtual collaboration with internal teams and program staff nationwide, as well as face-to-face engagement with donors to build relationships, making adaptability and strong communication skills key to success.
