Assistant Controller
POSITION SUMMARY
Bevo Farms Ltd is seeking a highly organized and analytical Assistant Controller to support the Financial Controller in managing day-to-day financial operations, internal controls, and financial reporting. This role will provide leadership to the accounting team, ensure timely close processes, assist with audits, and contribute to financial planning and analysis. It is ideal for a CPA with strong accounting skills and a desire to step into a leadership track within a growing company.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting Operations
- Provide overall leadership and accountability to daily accounting functions, including AP, AR, bank reconciliations, and payroll entries.
- Oversee general ledger maintenance and assist in managing monthly, quarterly, and annual close.
- Ensure timely and accurate journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Assist in preparation of consolidated financial statements under IFRS.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare internal financial reports, KPIs, and variance analyses.
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis.
- Support preparation of audit-ready working papers and liaise with external auditors.
Compliance & Controls

Help monitor and enforce internal controls across accounting functions.

Support the implementation and refinement of accounting policies and procedures.

Assist the Financial Controller in implementing and monitoring SOX-compliant internal control measures across the accounting function.

Ensure 100% adherence to established control frameworks, and actively support testing, documentation, and remediation efforts related to accounting processes.

Assist in regulatory filings including GST/PST/HST, payroll remittances, and corporate taxes.
Team Support & Process Improvement
- Mentor junior accountants and assist with training on systems and processes.
- Identify and implement improvements in accounting workflows and reporting tools.
- Assist the Controller with financial initiatives and special projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
Mandatory:
- CPA designation (CA, CGA, or CMA).
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Proficiency in IFRS.
- Familiarity with audit process and controls testing.
- Strong Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics/Nav preferred).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Preferred:
- Experience with SOX compliant processes and documentation.
- Experience in a multi-entity or multi-site operation, ideally in agriculture or manufacturing.
- Familiarity with audit processes, controls testing, or SOX documentation.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced team setting.
