Why We Need You

We pride ourselves on efficiency and quality at our facility. As our newest Environmental Health & Safety Specialist, you will provide HSE leadership and coach supervisors and workers to give appropriate priority to Health, Safety and Environmental objectives & requirements. This role is responsible for ensuring 100% compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations while fostering a culture where safety and productivity coexist.

This is a full-time, permanent position.

What Will You be Doing?

Manage and maintain compliance with WorksafeBC OHS requirements including:

  • Managing First Aid requirements
  • Investigating incidents when required / appropriate
  • Ownership of First Aid Reporting
  • Worksafe claims management through 3rd party provider
  • Conducting safety training
  • Managing the JHSC ensuring monthly meetings, inspections, and minutes meet WorksafeBC standards
  • Conducting risk assessments and implementing / maintaining various exposure control plans
  • Develop Safety training programs & activities to support safety including WHMIS, Lockout, PPE requirements
  • Proficient in reading SDS and understanding any special requirements of the products

Manage and support environmental and sustainability activities:

  • Manage contracts with related providers
  • Manage waste and recycling programs including hazardous waste and contract management
  • Identify, develop and implement waste / cost reduction opportunities

Technical / engineering support:

  • Initiate or support projects that improve the reliability or productivity of equipment and / or processes as it relates to health, safety and environmental opportunities

  • Provide technical support from a safety, environmental, chemical / chemistry perspective for lab operations

  • Support maintenance activities / technicians when required

  • Proficient in reading SDS and understanding any special requirements of the products

As the Successful Candidate, You Have

  • Bachelor degree or two year diploma in engineering (chemical or environmental) or a related field and a OHS certification
  • 3-5 years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Worker’s Compensation Act, OHS regulations, and BC Waste and Hazardous Waste Regulations. Proficient in MS Office.
  • Intermediate First Aid certificate and Transportation of Dangerous Goods training

The expected compensation for this position is between $65,000 - $90,000 annually considering factors like experience, skills, and qualifications.
