Overview Of The Position Reporting to the Senior Lead, Position Evaluation, this position plays a crucial role in ensuring equitable classification decisions and providing expert job design advice for an assigned client group. The consultant is responsible for assessing and evaluating both non-management and management positions using the City of Edmonton's job classification evaluation tools. This role involves offering strategic advice on organizational structures, workforce compositions, and conducting jurisdictional analysis. You will ensure employees are appropriately compensated for their responsibilities, making a direct impact on their salary and benefits.

What will you do?

  • Evaluate positions using City/Korn Ferry Hay methodologies
  • Develop rationale and collaborate with HR colleagues on in-scope (union) jobs
  • Represent Employee Services in Classification Appeals
  • Conduct job audits, determine salary placements, and respond to inquiries
  • Provide strategic advice and subject matter expertise for organizational changes
  • Maintain accurate records, review specifications, and collaborate on position descriptions
  • Participate in system modernization and develop recommendations
  • Manage projects, fosters client relationships, and deliver training
  • Mentor new employees and integrate Classification and Organizational Development perspectives

Qualifications:

  • University degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline (combinations of relevant education/training and experience will be considered as equivalencies)
  • A minimum of 5 years Human Resources experience, including 2 years of directly relevant experience in job evaluation, compensation or a related area

Assets:

  • Experience with the Korn Ferry Hay methodology for job architecture systems
  • Proficiency in PeopleSoft and Success Factors (SAP) HR Information Systems

Skills required for success:

  • Strong analytical and consultation skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Proficient in Google workspace
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities

Work Environment:

  • This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite
