About the role
Location: Sherwood Park, Alberta
The Company
MSCP provides highly innovative technical and organizational solutions for Heat Management in the Energy sector. Founded in 2011, the company supports clients across Oil & Gas, Mining, Power Generation, Water Treatment, and other industrial markets through engineering, manufacturing, construction, and maintenance services.
The Market
Our clients operate complex industrial facilities where safe, reliable, and cost-effective execution is essential. Estimating plays a critical role in ensuring projects are developed on a sound commercial foundation by balancing technical requirements, operational realities, and client expectations.
The Model
MSCP operates using a genuinely systemic organizational model, rather than a traditional hierarchical structure. Estimating is not an isolated department, it is an integrated function that supports Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Operations, and Project Management through the continuous flow of accurate information.
Our approach is designed to protect workflow, reduce uncertainty, and support informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. Estimators at MSCP contribute not only to winning work but to ensuring projects are executable, profitable, and aligned with operational capabilities.
Success in this environment requires individuals who enjoy collaboration, continuous learning, and problem-solving within a highly integrated organization.
The Position – Estimator
The Estimator is responsible for developing accurate and competitive project estimates while supporting the company's strategic growth objectives. Working closely with internal stakeholders, the Estimator evaluates project opportunities, develops pricing strategies, identifies commercial risks, and helps establish realistic execution plans before work begins.
This role is ideal for an individual with some estimating experience who is looking to further develop their technical and commercial skills within a collaborative and innovative organization.
Key Responsibilities
Review drawings, specifications, client documentation, and bid packages to determine project scope and requirements. Prepare labour, material, equipment, subcontractor, and indirect cost estimates for industrial projects. Perform quantity take-offs and develop detailed pricing packages. Solicit, review, and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations. Work collaboratively with Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Operations, and Project Management to ensure estimates reflect current operational capabilities. Identify commercial risks, assumptions, exclusions, and value-engineering opportunities. Participate in estimating reviews, bid strategy discussions, and proposal development. Support project handover activities by ensuring estimating assumptions and project information are communicated effectively to execution teams. Maintain estimating databases, labour units, historical costing information, and supplier pricing. Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating processes, procedures, and digital workflows. Assist with post-project estimate reviews to capture lessons learned and improve future estimate accuracy. Support MSCP's systemic methodology by ensuring estimating activities contribute to organizational flow rather than localized optimization.
Qualifications
Education
Diploma, certificate, or degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline is considered an asset. Equivalent combinations of education and practical industry experience will be considered.
Experience
Approximately 5+ years of estimating or project coordination experience within industrial construction, manufacturing, maintenance, fabrication, or related industries. Experience preparing quantity take-offs and cost estimates is preferred. Exposure to industrial projects involving mechanical, electrical, insulation, heat tracing, coatings, fabrication, or maintenance services is considered an asset.
Knowledge & Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications. Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously. High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office. Experience with estimating, ERP, or project management software is considered an asset. Procore experience considered an asset. Demonstrates curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to continuously learn and improve.
What We Offer
Competitive compensation based on experience. Comprehensive health and dental benefits after 3 months. RRSP matching program after 6 months. Professional development and career growth opportunities. Exposure to a diverse range of industrial projects and clients. A collaborative environment built around continuous improvement and systemic thinking. The opportunity to contribute to an innovative organization that challenges traditional approaches to industrial project delivery.
