Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) is a patient-centred primary care hospital that has been established in Alexandria, Ontario for over 50 years. HGMH provides acute care, complex continuing care, 24-hour emergency services, and rehabilitation to over 23,000 residents every year. Our team includes over 180 staff members, 50 Medical Staff members and 100 volunteers who all take pride in bringing quality health care to our local Eastern Ontario community.

1. POSITION PURPOSE

The Maintenance Team Lead ensures a safe, functional, and well-maintained hospital environment by overseeing daily operations, preventive maintenance, special projects, and renovations. This role provides guidance to the maintenance team while upholding CSA standards for Healthcare Facilities and prioritizing patient safety in all activities. By coordinating maintenance work and collaborating with departments, the Maintenance Team Lead supports reliable infrastructure, minimizes infection risks, and ensures hospital systems operate efficiently to enable the delivery of safe, high-quality care.

2. ABILITIES:

  • Strong attendance and reliability to support critical hospital operations.
  • Leadership and team supervision skills, with ability to coach and mentor staff.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with clinical and non-clinical departments.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and oversee multiple projects, renovations, and maintenance tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and documentation.
  • Proficiency with computers for record keeping, maintenance management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and make decisions that prioritize patient and staff safety.
  • Ability to provide on-call support and flexible working hours.
  1. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
  • Post-secondary education in building systems, maintenance, trades, or equivalent experience.
  • Valid trade Red Seal certification (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC, millwright).
  • Knowledge of CSA Standards Z8000 (Canadian Health Care Facilities – Planning, Design and Construction) and Z317.13(Infection Control During Construction, Renovation, and Maintenance of Health Care Facilities) .
  • Health and Safety training (e.g., WHMIS, Occupational Health & Safety Act compliance) required.
  • A valid, government-approved working at heights certification, an asset.
  • Valid OSHA Forklift Safety License, an asset.
  • Valid Confined Space Safety certification, an asset.
  • Project management or supervisory experience and/or training, an asset.
  • Strong understanding of building systems (mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, structural).
  • Working knowledge of hospital infrastructure requirements, building codes, and fire safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with healthcare standards and regulatory requirements (CSA, TSSA, IPAC).
  • Understanding of patient safety principles and risk management in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of contract management, vendor relations, and project coordination.
