About the role

Research Ethics Analyst

The Unity Health Ethics Board (REB) ensures that research involving humans meets the current scientific and ethical research standards for the protection of those human research participants. The Research Ethics Office (REO) coordinates the activities of the REB.

The REO is looking for a full-time Research Ethics Analyst to join its team. The main responsibility of the Research Ethics Analyst is to manage the REO's minimal risk submissions and administrative tasks. This includes reviewing minimal risk submissions, providing advice and guidance to research teams, and providing administrative and project support to the REO.

This role requires knowledge of ethical principles and research best practices, organisational and time-management skills, and involves daily communication with a diverse range of individuals and roles.

##Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research Ethics Review and Consultation

  • Coordinates and manages the review of

    minimal-risk submissions

    to the REB through all stages of the review process

  • Reviews submissions to ensure compliance with institutional, REB policies, and provincial, national, and international regulations, guidelines, and policies.

  • Screens submissions to REB for reviewability (completeness, accuracy and consistency across documents)

  • Provides advice and consultation to research teams on the review process and submissions

  • Creates guides, templates, and other training materials to assist researchers and research staff in navigating the eREB, preparing submissions, and addressing common concerns in advance

  • Operations and Projects Support

  • Schedules and prepares the agenda, minutes, attendance records, and other supporting documents for REB meetings

  • Maintains the Research Ethics Board membership list and membership files in compliance with REB SOPs

  • Provides administrative support to various other operational projects including the eREB, clinical trials.gov registration, archiving of old documents, etc.

  • Assists with any other duties and responsibilities assigned

##Knowledge and Skills

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in human, life, or health sciences or an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education
  • Experience in an office, customer service, or team setting, with 1-3 years of experience or a demonstrable equivalent combination of specialized education and experience
  • Some experience in interpreting and applying regulations and guidelines
  • Proficient in software applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat Reader Pro, and website content management
  • Comfortable with Excel and data management, creation of graphs
  • Preferably experienced and interested in healthcare research
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Takes initiative and follows direction, as appropriate
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others
  • Detail-oriented
  • Time management skills
  • Ability to exercise good judgment
  • Self-sufficient and will look for solutions or answers before asking for help. Understands when to reach out for help.
