APPLICATIONS DEVELOPER & DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR

Richmond School District operates 38 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, alternate programs, continuing education, and a number of additional facilities. The district enrolls approximately 22,000 students (K-12) and employs over 3500 dedicated staff.
Reporting to the Director, Facilities Services, the Manager, Maintenance Planning & Improvements leads the planning, coordination, and delivery of maintenance programs and projects across the District's facilities portfolio.
This role combines strategic asset planning, operational leadership, and project delivery, ensuring that school facilities are safe, well-maintained, and supportive of quality learning environments.
Statement Of Purpose
The work involves the development of standards, procedures, the analysis and resolution of software problems. This position is responsible for complex analysis, design, programming, administration, and configuration of software in server, desktop/laptop and tablet/mobile environments. Work will include applications implementation; operating systems support or database administration. Duties may include providing customer support, assistance with more complex work or troubleshooting software issues. This position is part of the Management Information Systems (MIS) department.
Major Duties And Responsibilities
(This is not an exhaustive list of the duties to be performed.)
Plans, designs, tests, maintains and supports District technology systems and databases. Designs, develops and supports custom software solutions. Recommends information technology strategies in regards to software standards and designs. Liaises with the Ministry of Education, district managers, school administrators, site contacts and outside agencies. Prepares technical documentation for software. Continuously upgrades skills to keep abreast of new technology. Performs other job-related duties of comparable importance, difficulty and responsibility as necessary.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Abilities And Skills)
Grade 12 or equivalent plus a Diploma in Computer Information Systems Technology or related subjects from a recognized institution of technology plus seven (7) years relevant work experience. Microsoft Certified Database Administrators (MCDBAs) or Microsoft Certified Application Developers (MCADs) certification and/or a minimum of 5 years of direct database administration or application development experience with a strong working knowledge of SQL. Extensive knowledge and experience with current computer systems such as Mac OSX, iOS, Windows and Linux. Extensive knowledge and experience in the following web application and cloud-based technologies: JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Azure Functions, Azure Static Web Apps, Azure SQL, Microsoft SQL Server, .NET Core, PowerBI and Microsoft Power Platform. Ability to organize workload; work under periodic pressure and deadlines and complete projects and assignments with minimal supervision. Excellent interpersonal skills including excellent verbal and written communications skills. Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
This position is on-site at our IT location in Richmond and 40 hours per week M-F.
