As a Senior Project Engineer, you will provide program/project leadership and technical oversight in the planning and development of complex, capital-intensive facility projects. You will oversee facility development initiatives, coordinate multiple interrelated projects, provide engineering and architectural technical assurance and advisory services, and translate service needs into viable infrastructure solutions. By combining deep technical expertise with program-level leadership, you will ensure that infrastructure investments are well-planned, effectively governed, and positioned for successful execution and long-term value. Primary duties include:
- Lead planning and technical management of complex capital facility projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and public sector governance frameworks.
- Negotiate consultant proposals and oversee the performance of consultants and contractors.
- Conduct risk assessments, value planning, lifecycle costing, and options analysis to support evidence-based decision-making and long-term value.
- Identify phasing/sequencing of projects for optimal service delivery, cost-effectiveness, and constructability.
- Ensure project readiness for transition to delivery teams by maintaining design integrity and performance expectations while evaluating site and constructability constraints to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Facilitate cross-functional discussions and proactively resolve technical and strategic challenges; prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and briefings for senior leadership and governance bodies.
- Carry out alternative evaluations, conceptual and preliminary design, and engineering related to the construction of new facilities.
- Assess and evaluate the need for improvements to existing facilities.
- Respond to challenges with innovative solutions and services by challenging conventional means, using technical expertise.
Qualifications
- A degree in Engineering and at least 8 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. - In-depth knowledge in civil engineering, including structural, geotechnical, and transportation disciplines, along with experience in building and mechanical systems.
- Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification or equivalent is preferred.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered to be an asset.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to work effectively with internal/external partners.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with a proven ability to effectively influence others and resolve client, project, and technical issues.

Workstyle
- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

- Position Type: 1 Permanent
- Compensation: P4E $138,475 - 173,094 per annum
- Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.
- Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
