About the role

OMVIC is currently searching for an Intermediate Accountant for the Toronto-based corporate office.

Who is OMVIC:

OMVIC (Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council) is Ontario’s vehicle sales regulator. OMVIC enforces the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act and other consumer protection statutes for the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement. OMVIC’s mandate and role is to maintain a fair and informed marketplace by protecting the rights of consumers, enhancing industry professionalism, and ensuring fair, honest, and open competition for registered motor vehicle dealers. This is achieved by maintaining strict dealer/salesperson registration requirements; inspecting all Ontario dealers (new and used); providing free complaint handling to consumers; developing/delivering consumer and dealer education/awareness programs; and investigating and prosecuting industry non-compliance and illegal sales (curbsiding).

Position Summary:

The Intermediate Accountant handles regular accounting tasks, assists with month-end closing, and assists with risk management and scorecard reporting activities. The role also includes cash flow forecasting and revenue analysis for both OMVIC and the Motor Vehicle Dealership Compensation Fund (MVDCF).

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the general ledgers, process transactions, and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
  • Prepare cash flow forecast, and quarterly department reports.
  • Manage organizational risk tracking, data collection, and reporting, and assist with preparing the quarterly KPI scorecard.
  • Prepare monthly credit card summaries, prepaid entries, invoice accruals, and expense and account reconciliations.
  • Review and process invoices, expense reports and credit card statements in Concur/SAP.
  • Review and process credit card refund requests from the registration team.
  • Assists the Controller with the year-end working papers and annual budget process.
  • Assist with month-end closing duties.
  • Performs various financial analyses and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in accounting or a related field of study.
  • A minimum of 2 years of accounting-related work experience with a strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and experience in Microsoft Dynamics or other ERP accounting software is preferred.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a dynamic and changing work environment.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
  • Working toward a CPA is preferred, but not required.
