MLSE LaunchPad is a 42,000 sq. ft. Sport For Development facility where youth facing barriers use sport to recognize and reach their potential. Supported by MLSE’s professional sports teams- the Toronto Maple Leafs , Toronto Raptors, Toronto Argonauts and Toronto FC, it is the first facility of its kind in North America. As a collaborative space promoting social change by leveraging sport, education and research, our programming is focused on four pillars: Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, Ready for School and Ready for Work. What’s great about this job:
As Nutrition Hub Lead you will prepare, deliver, and lead the cleanup for a nutritious, well-rounded, inclusive snack menu that addresses the varied dietary and cultural needs of our members and families. You will also support our Nutrition Coordinator in facilitating fun and engaging nutrition curriculum for youth ages 6- 29 . You will be interacting directly with our diverse and wonderful community in a vibrant, fast-paced , team- oriented environment – every day will be a new adventure!
Your team :
You will be working on an energetic and dynamic Nutrition Hub Team that provides healthy food for youth members , families, partners, and our community . The Nutrition Hub Team prides itself on the quality of the food it serves, the positive atmosphere that it creates , and is an integ ral part of putting our “Youth First, Always ” core value into action. By joining our Nutrition Hub Team, you are joining the MLSE LaunchPad family, where your work goes beyond foo d prep and delivery into youth work, community building, and long-term impact .
What you’ll be doing :
Providing a healthy, nutritious snack for members and their families: under the guidance of the Nutrition Hub Coordinator, you will be preparing and serving a high-quality after-school snack for members ages 6-18 and their families. The food provided will be nutritious, culturally diverse, and will contain whole foods to meet the need s of our community. Delivering food with patience, a smile , and centring the positive experience of our youth are key to snack delivery – it's about more than just food .
M aintaining the health and safety of the Nutrition Hub : m anaging daily cleaning routines, including washing dishes, counters, equipment and appliances, sweeping the floor, and removing garbage are essential components of this role. This includes ensuring that equipment is cleaned, sanitized, and ready for use the next day , and maintain ing a high standard of recordkeeping regarding sanitation, temperatures, and health and safety.
Supporting the culinary skills and kitchen acumen for youth participating in programs : provid e orientation , mentorship, hands - on support , and strength -based feedback to youth and junior staff in kitchen p rograms to encourage learning and growth while maintaining health and safety . This will include both youth participating in programming as well as culinary placement students.
Liaising with MLSE LaunchPad staff , volunteers and partner programs : ensure the kitchen program ming runs smoothly and fits into already established routines. This involves w ork ing with p artner p rograms to ensure the space is shared in a collaborative manner , serving as a subject-matter resource in k itchen p rocedures to staff, participants , and partner organizations , and e ffectively delegat ing to volunteers and provid ing constructive feedback regarding volunteer engagement in the program.
Keeping up to date with administrative tasks : p articipating in all required staff orientation s , training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/ required and p erform ing other duties as assigned, including occasionally supporting events and programs as required by the Nutrition Hub Coordinator. We are one big team and we support each other on projects, proposals and events. Everything is “our job ”.

You’re a great fit for this job if:

You have 1 or more year s of supervising staff , interns and/or volunteers in a kitchen or nutrition-based setting , focused on food preparation, cooking , and service .

Familiarity with preparing , cooking, and serving foods, including following recipes , managing food storage, sanitization , and cleaning.

Ability to lift, push, pull, move products, equipment and supplies ( e.g. food trays, dishes, pots, pans, serving tables, etc.) .
-
Positive demeanor , calm under pressure, and high energy.

Availability to work evening hours to support our after - school and evening programs.

A genuine care for community and a desire to work in a youth-centered environment to impact meaningful change in downtown Toronto.
Extra things that can support your application :

Knowledge of food justice, and sensitivity to the impact of social, economic, environmental, and cultural issues in local food systems.

Experience delivering educational programming to youth aged 6 to 18 , with group facilitation, or other experience working with children and youth.

Food Handlers Certificate and Standard First Aid & CPR certification, or willing to obtain these certifications.

Academic and/or work experience in nutrition or dietetics, food and hospitality, or in a social services or community setting .

You speak a second language .
