About the role

Take a journey back to the 1920’s to a post and beam bank barn with sawdust on the floor and an outdoor gathering picnic space with cobblestone paths. Back to a time when our food was organically grown, produced, and sold locally.

Nestled among the rolling hills of Grey Highlands, the Utopia Market is a 2.5-storey, 7,600 square foot new build post and beam bank barn, with a traditional threshing door at the top of the bank and a welcoming covered front porch.

The four-season Market would sell food and products that are locally grown and produced along with value added items. Premium organic custom cut meats, premium organic vegetables and artisan breads are among the offerings ensure consumers have healthy options when it comes to deciding what to put on their table.

Local organically grown crops such as wheat, spelt, barley and oats will be processed at the local mill in Gibraltar and then will be created into delicious artisan breads and treats using traditional methods.

Position Summary The Meat Assistant at the farms market supports the meat department in daily operations, ensuring products are fresh, well-displayed, and meet quality and safety standards. This role includes assisting customers, preparing meat for sale, maintaining cleanliness, and helping with inventory and restocking.This position is part-time, 3-4 days per week from 2:00pm to 6:30pm including weekends.

Key Duties

  • Assist with cutting, trimming, packaging, and labeling meat products.
  • Maintain clean and sanitized work areas, equipment, and display cases.
  • Restock meat cases and ensure proper product rotation (FIFO).
  • Greet and assist customers with product selections and questions.
  • Monitor product quality and report any concerns to the manager.
  • Follow all food safety and work safety procedures.
  • Help receive and store incoming meat deliveries.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of meat cuts and handling preferred (some training provided).
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working in refrigerated environments.
  • Team-oriented and reliable.

Work Environment

  • This position is located in a farm market setting.
  • Standing for long periods; frequent bending, lifting, and handling raw meat.
