Construction Machine Design Engineer - Multi-Directional Wire Saw Excavation Machine
About the role
Construction Machine Design Engineer - Multi-Directional Wire Saw Excavation Machine Updated Date: 22/08/2025
Job description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Construction Machine Design Engineer specializing in the development of a patented Multi-Directional Wire Saw Excavation system. You could pursue a career as a Lead Systems Design Engineer or Principal Mechanical Engineer within a company focused on specialized demolition, tunneling, or quarrying equipment. This role would involve managing the entire product lifecycle, from conceptualization to field deployment.
Key Responsibilities and Focus Areas
- System Architecture and Design: Lead the creation of the system's overall design, including the structural frame, wire tensioning and drive mechanisms, and the multi-axis movement controls. Focus on making the system modular and adaptable for various site conditions.
- Mechanical and Hydraulic Engineering: Oversee the design of the hydraulic power unit, linear actuators, and rotary joints. The engineer must ensure the system can apply the necessary cutting force and maintain stability while operating on uneven or sloped surfaces.
- Kinematic and Dynamic Analysis: Utilize simulation software (like SolidWorks, ANSYS, or MATLAB) to model the system's movement and forces. This is crucial for optimizing the cutting path and preventing wire breakage due to excessive stress or vibration.
- Materials and Manufacturing: Select materials for high-wear components (e.g., pulleys, wire beads) that can withstand abrasive environments. The engineer would also manage the manufacturing process, ensuring precision and quality control.
- Control Systems Integration: Collaborate with electrical and software engineers to integrate a robust control system. This system must allow for precise, automated cutting paths and include safety features like emergency stops and load monitoring.
- Testing and Validation: Develop and execute a comprehensive test plan to validate the system's performance, durability, and safety. This includes both lab testing of individual components and on-site field trials.
- Field Deployment and Support: Lead the initial deployment of the system, providing technical support and training to operators. The engineer would also be responsible for collecting feedback to inform future design iterations.
Required Skills and Experience (5 years minimum)
- Advanced Mechanical Design: Expertise in 3D CAD software and finite element analysis (FEA).
- Hydraulics and Pneumatics: Deep understanding of fluid power systems and their application in heavy machinery.
- Robotics and Automation: Knowledge of kinematic analysis and control system design for multi-axis machines.
- Project Management: Strong organizational and leadership skills to manage a cross-functional team and a complex project timeline.
- Communication: The ability to clearly articulate design concepts and technical specifications to both engineers and stakeholders.
