Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for general repairs and preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment as listed below.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)
-
County of Simcoe vehicles (i.e. half ton trucks, light duty trailers).
-
County of Simcoe Paramedic Vehicles – ambulances (diesel and gas), specialty vehicles (i.e. trailers, SUV’s).
-
County of Simcoe heavy vehicles (i.e. plow trucks, roll-off trucks, highway tractors, trailers, etc.).
-
County of Simcoe heavy equipment (i.e. loaders, excavators, dozers, etc.).
-
Light duty vehicles and small equipment repairs.
-
Responsible for ordering parts and coordinating external mechanic services.
-
Responsible for completing internal paperwork and computerized work orders including reconciliation of parts purchases and maintenance record keeping.
-
Other duties as assigned, including redeployment in emergency situations.

Comply with provincial and County occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.

Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION
-
Grade 12 diploma. This job may be considered for educational equivalency in accordance with County Policy.
-
310T Mechanic.
-
310S licence would be considered an asset.
-
Minimum G class driver’s license with a clean abstract, DZ driver’s class would be preferred.
-
Must provide own transportation to and from site(s).
-
Ability to certify company equipment in accordance with provincial standards.
-
Ability to perform road services and repairs.
-
Welding skills.
-
Ability to service heavy equipment would be an asset.
-
Possess basic computer skills (e-mail, and ability to use computer diagnostic technology and/or equipment).
-
Must be an effective team player.
-
Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
-
Criminal records check that is less than 6 months old at time of hire.
EXPERIENCE
-
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a mechanic (5 years preferred).
-
Experience troubleshooting hydraulic and electronic systems.
-
Experience with repairing waste industry trucks and equipment would be an asset.
-
Experience servicing emergency vehicles would be an asset.
EFFORT
-
Walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting, climbing or carrying and/or pulling of light weights.
-
Ability to lift up to 20kg.
-
Mental and visual concentration when working on equipment/driving.
WORKING CONDITIONS
-
Must wear the required PPE year round.
-
Work is performed at a garage.
-
Exposure to grease, oil, dust, dirt, noise, and foul odours on a regular basis.

$39.64 - $40.31
