Co-op Student - Industrial Hygiene (Burnaby) - Fall September 2026

Annual salary: $2,257.45 - 2,658.05 biweekly

The location for this position is our Edmonds Office in Burnaby. This is a hands-on role with exposure to occupational
health, ergonomic risk assessment, and wellness program coordination within a large utility organization. The work will have
exposure to diverse work environments including office settings, operational facilities, and remote work assessments,
providing comprehensive experience in workplace health and safety practices.
As Kinesiology Co-op student, your primary role will include:
- Working with Safety Program team members to support the BC Hydro workplace ergonomics program and employee
wellness initiatives.
- Conduct ergonomic job analyses and body mechanics assessments for employees in office, field, and operational
environments.
- Prepare comprehensive reports documenting ergonomic assessments with evidence-based recommendations for work
environment improvements that support injury prevention.
- Support the ergonomic program co-ordinator to design, coordinate, and deliver training programs on proper ergonomics,
body mechanics, stretching techniques, and workplace wellness practices.
- Utilize innovative solutions and employee engagement strategies to design and implement ergonomic interventions such
as exercise programs, educational materials, and workstation modifications.
- Collaborate with health and safety teams, facility managers, and employees to promote ergonomic awareness and
wellness engagement across the organization.
- Work collaboratively with employees across multiple sites to identify and eliminate ergonomic hazards and support the
deployment of a wellness technology pilot program.
Additional responsibilities may include:
- Support employees working remotely by conducting virtual wellness assessments and providing guidance on home office
ergonomics.
- Assist with the deployment and support of a wellness technology pilot program, including user onboarding, data collection,
and program evaluation.
- Providing technical subject matter expert support.
What you bring
- To qualify as a candidate, individuals must be currently enrolled in a Kinesiology degree program with relevant coursework
in biomechanics, anatomy, physiology, or ergonomics completed.

Strong working knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

Strong communication skills, highly motivated and results oriented.

Proven ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders, facilitate discussions, and compile information from various
sources

Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences

Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and follow-up

A valid Class 5 Driver's License is required for this role.
What we offer
- As a condition of employment at BC Hydro, a background check clearance will be required. This may include: reference
checks, education verification, employment verification, criminal record check, drivers abstract review, and a drug and
alcohol test.
- All positions will be hired first as a four month work term. For some positions, there is opportunity to extend, to eight
months.
- Students are expected to work at the job location for their co-op role and it is the student’s responsibility to relocate
themselves if necessary.
Please be advised that this role has been assessed as safety sensitive and pre-qualification alcohol and drug testing will be
required as a pre-condition to employment.

time.
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
