About the role

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has an exciting opportunity for one (1) temporary casual Dental Hygienist to work on the Oral Health & Clinical Support Services team in our London and Strathroy clinics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Associate Manager, Oral Health & Clinical Support Services, the incumbent will:

  • Provide preventive and clinical dental hygiene services to children, youth, and seniors in a public health clinic;
  • Provide dental education & maintain dental records;
  • Maintain standards of practice, with particular attention to dental disinfection and sterilization procedures;
  • Participate in community dental education activities;
  • Provide services to seniors under government-assisted programs;
  • Provide all clinical services that a dental hygienist is legally permitted to carry out, including: provision of topical fluorides, placement of sealants, dental prophylaxis, and scaling; and,
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered by the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario;
  • Completion of a diploma in Dental Hygiene;
  • Baccalaureate degree in Dental Hygiene or a related field is an asset;
  • Current knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive dental hygiene services;
  • Current CPR certification;
  • Previous experience working with children, seniors, and vulnerable populations in a clinical setting;
  • Experience working in the Public Health sector is preferred;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong ability to work independently and take initiative;
  • Technical skills in the areas of documentation, Microsoft Office Suite, and database software;
  • Experience with ABELDent and Oral Health Information Support System (OHISS) is an asset;
  • Skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse population, has knowledge of health inequities.
  • Possession of a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License and use of a vehicle for work-related purposes OR the ability to arrange for transportation to multiple locations in London and Middlesex County; and,
  • Communication proficiency (written and verbal) in French and/or any other language is highly desirable.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $34.40 to $42.97 based on qualifications and experience.
