Job Title - Protection and Control Engineer
Job Location - 650 Markland Street, Cachet Corporate Center, Markham, Ontario, Canada, L6C 0M1 Job Description - Travel - 25% ROLE SUMMARY This position will be responsible for executing Protection and Control Engineering and Consulting services in Transmission, Distribution and Industrial markets in the US and Canada. Reporting through the Grid Automation North America Protection and Control Engineering manager , the Lead Protection and Control Engineer will be part of the regional Projects and Services execution team. Activities will include designing, programming, testing and commissioning protection and control related applications for power system design and substation automation projects.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and delivery of complex protection solutions for generation, transmission, distribution systems for electrical utilities and industrial clients. Perform engineering studies and analyses such as: short circuit, load flow, ground grid design, Lightening protection studies, Insulation coordination, arc-flash studies, protective device coordination, etc. Create relay setting files to include programming of Protection and Control Elements, Control Logic and Communications settings for GE and third-party protective relays. Test customized Protection and Control solutions both in house and at customer installations Provide factory acceptance test plans and testing services to validate protection designs for customer witnessing Site acceptance test planning and field support up to and including commissioning of new applications Assist software tool development to automate the engineering process internally and externally with key utility partners Participate in project meetings with project managers and customers on technical discussions QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: B.S or higher degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering specialized in power system. Five (5) years of experience in study, and analysis of electric power systems. Knowledge of power system steady and transient analysis, fault study and protection theory. Familiar with symmetrical components. Working experience with study software and power system tools such as Mathcad, MATLAB, ASPEN, CAPE, SKM, CDEGS, WinIGS, or Etap Working knowledge on substation communication protocols such as IEC 61850, DNP, Modbus Knowledge or field experience with system commissioning and testing including Doble / Omicron test equipment or similar Ethical and professional business manner in interaction with team members and customers. Technical skills to execute projects, identify opportunities, and write SOW proposals. Estimate engineering efforts for customer proposals and projects.
Proficient in technical report writing, MS Word and Excel
Strong communication skills including technical writing and presentations.
Strong learning skills, demonstrated team player and Customer focused
Professional engineering accreditation is not essential but definitely would be an asset.
